I am really glad you went with the Cobra's.  They have some very underrated irons.  I had a set of amps that I just traded in for a custom set of Mizuno's (which I would have recommended but were out of your price range).  They swing very smooth and are very forgiving.

Enjoy your new sticks, let us know how they fare on the course

I played my first round Sunday with them, I have to say I was very happy with how they performed. Love the hybrids, supper easy to hit, so for me I made a good decision with them I feel at this point.

My son has them in reg flex but has placed an order to switch them out for stiff to get his ball flight down a little, he was killing it with them Sunday.

I don't want to say money it not an issue, but I would have paid a $1000 if I felt I would have an iron that hit better or felt better.

I still feel that all the GI irons are so close now that any set you get as long as you like the performance, feel and look you cant go wrong.

Hope you enjoy them.

I wouldn't change anything. High ball flight is nice, and if he's killing it with the R flex keep it.

Cobra R flex is probably like a Ping or TM stiff flex anyway.

I would agree if he was not so young and only getting better and stronger all the time. Plus the monitor puts him borderline, so will error on side of a stiff shaft. That was with every brand he was hitting, (he hit all of them).

Plus we have moved everything to a SS at this point, it was the last piece. Of course he has 90 days to play so will see how it goes.

To be young again.

I suppose it gets expensive to change all the shafts when he out grows it. I was just thinking on the lines that everything is working for him now, you can keep it until he needs the new shafts later on. Who knows, maybe he'll want Mizuno MP-54 by next fall?

Then you can use this set when he replaces it.

I got my own, but to be honest he does not like Mizuno irons, all is in the eyes of the beholder.

Alternatively, he could have his eyes on the X-Forged or the TM-MC, or some other new hot looking iron that the rest of the team is using. I just threw Mizuno out there. ;-)

IDK, I just responded when I read the part the he "hits high and kills it", and I simply thought "Why change anything?"

If I read "he hits too high and pulls everything", I agree, you need to change it to stiff.

dpsmith - thanks for that rundown! Am on a similar hunt, and had done a quick demo of similar clubs but have overlooked the BioCells ... will go back (to a PGA Super Store near me) and try them - plus the Apex.

Oh, and this time will remember to bring a few of my own clubs into the store with me!!!

2) Should I graduate to something like the C100 or should I still use full game improvement irons like the D100? I would like to learn to work the ball a little and I am aware enough to know when I hit it off the toe/heel. In the end I just want lower scores.

The X12 came out in 1998, so it's been around awhile. The Uniflex shaft has its own feel, so it's a bit hard to compare to others.

As for the C or D, try both of them out and see which one works best.  As far as working the ball goes, you can do a basic fade or draw with almost any golf club, if you understand how the swing works.

If you're going for more exotic trajectories - knockdowns, low fades, high hooks - you will need sufficient practice time to become competent with them.

Focus, connect and follow through!

    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
