In golf, of course. In all the time that everyone's played, what has been the easiest thing you were able to pick up?

For me, that's actually a hard question, since just about anything was a struggle... I would have to say contact with the ball and a decent swing/tempo. Even the range pro who I had lessons with when I was a total hack said he was impressed by the swing I'd had, which undoubtedly had flaws, but wasn't nearly as bad as most hacks. Also, contact with the ball has always been a no-brainer. I almost never whiffed, and just about never do it today.

Today, the easiest part about the game is distance off the tee... I'm not JB Holmes, John Daly, or Bubba Watson by a long shot, but compared to the 90 percent of golfers who are hackers who hit 200 yard fades at best, it's long ball.

Easiest for me was chipping. When i was little id be able to chip that ball from anywhere and get it at least within 5 feet, of course I was golfing at little course, but I remember how impressive my chipping was.

Now its just gone...

At the risk of sounding like a cliche`, I think the easiest thing to learn in golf is how to make a bad swing (bad habit).

Haha yeah man I agree with you 100%. Once your muscles start to remember how you were doing a bad swing, it'll be extremely hard to break that habit.

I find the easiest to learn is chipping. It's like Othello/Reversi: 5 minutes to learn, a lifetime to master. I kid, of course, but the mechanics of chipping are generally simple, yet we still foul it up. Second easiest: clubs distances. As it happens, my expected carry with an iron changes by 2.5 yards per degree of loft difference, 4 Iron through PW. The hardest are the mental game and the course management. Lately, when I have a blowup hole, I analyze it after the round and figure out where not to hit next time. If the group behind me is slow, I'll look back from the green and plan for the next trip to that course.

Course management and playing within your ability. Nothing much learn here reall. Most of the trouble on golf courses is right there in front of you. This is just about having the discipline not to swing from your shoes every time, play from the right tees, pick the smart club and play the smart shot, not the hero/pro shot.

Putting, for sure. It's hot and cold with me but for a newish golfer my putting is solid. My driving has also been pretty good. I'm not consistant, or consistant enough to score we'll everyday, but I usually have a few good days a week where I'm puttin it out there in the fair way a pretty fair distance
