Hello everybody I have started playing golf again after a 15 year break. I've always been a hacker, never particularly good and I had terrible clubs to begin with. I have invested in an old set of ping eye 2's I was told they are brilliant clubs. I have started a few lessons to perfect my grip and setup etc. Much better now.. Although I now hear my irons may not be 'legal'. If I decided to join a club and get a handicap / play in a club competition would this stop me ? They are not ping eye 2 +, they are the original ones. If so this is so very disappointing. I am a UK player. Does this affect me, at the very bottom level or is it only for higher level folk ?

They may not be legal on the professional tours, and other clubs with similar grooves would be illegal after some point for higher level amateur competions or handicap purposes. However, I believe that both the USGA and R and A have a specific exemption for PING Eye 2's made before a certain date. Read a current copy the rules for the specifics. For casual play, I can't see that anyone would have a problem with you playing with these classic old sticks.

PS, if you haven't already, invest in new grips for your clubs; it will make a world of difference

They are perfectly legal as long as you are not playing on any professional tours. I played them all throughout high school until this year when I purchased new irons.

There is a very informative thread on certain ping models Allow me to point it out, it's life changing. :) http://thesandtrap.com/t/47724/ping-eye-2s-are-the-best-irons-ever-created Since you are in the UK, I don't know if the R&A; differ from the USGA, but the USGA have a search feature at http://www.usga.org/InfoClubsDB/intro.html A number of models require examination. Looks murky. Edit: If you don't have the + model, then you should be ok.
