Do anyone that plays in tournaments plan out a strategy for how to play each of the holes and write it down to lookn at during play?

Im talking about keeping it to certain side of fairway, hit approach shots to spot where they have straight as possible putt or easier putts ?This only applies when you know course well enough to know how green slopes.

If I'm playing a new course I always make my own yardage book. I don't write too much down because it depends on weather. I base all my strategy on club selection that will leave me in fine places if I hit a bad shot. If there is a bunker in the fairway were ill hit my driver and one were i hit my 4 iron, then i 3 wood, or if there is a tight fairway but plenty of open tough then I will just rip driver to the rough etc.

I use Google Earth and scout out distances off the tee to hazards and what club to use off the tee.  This helps a bit, but it is tough to see elevation changes, fairway slope, etc.  I did this for a small tournament yesterday and it helped. I did make adjustments once I saw how the hole looked from the tee.

The hardest part is approach shots.  You need to really see the green to determine your landing areas.

Always try and get out to see the course (preferably walking around for me, just because it helps me see the layout in the same way I'll see it come tournament day) even if you're unable to play it. Try and get one of their course yardage books and go take notes (I mark ridges on the greens, where I want to aim with an arrow indicating curve of the ballflight on tee shots, and little reminders about specific things that I am either working on or need to remember about that hole) as you see the course. It takes a lot of pressure off of you when you already know where to aim and with what club off the tee of every hole.
