I have had a Ping G25 since July and have broken four different shafts. I have taped it and tried to see why I broke them..no luck all have broken where the hosel and shaft meet. I have not hit a ball off of the hosel or near it nor have I hit the ground hard I skim it. Been golfing for 10 years. I have been told I have fast hands and club head speed but no way I am as fast as others? Perhaps some tiny little defect in the club? Something that would compromise the shaft when installed? Or if they were all installed by the same person, perhaps he's doing something wrong? Otherwise, no idea.

You are breaking the fibers with the hosel. Check for a specified ferrule. The idea is that the ferrule is actually a component of the head instead of a decorative effect, and its purpose is to spread force up and across the fibers and not edge break them as your problem shows is possible. Ping is kinda famous for interesting hosel ideas. Dont ask me why they did that, my only guess when hosels change shape is some designer is using the metal as weighting one way or another.

I have gotten the shafts from various places. Have you heard of this happening before?

Sure, just not four in a row breaking the exact same way. That's why I'm just trying to think of a possible common denominator.

When a shaft breaks at the hosel, it probably means the hosel was never properly coned. The hosel top should look a little like a funnel. The club head will rock back and forth slightly and if the top edge of the hosel touches the shaft it will break the fibers and eventually break the club. I would think this wouldn't be a problem with shaft insets. I picked up a used driver and broke the shaft as you did. I got the old piece of shaft out of the hosel and deburred the hosel. I smoothed it out with emory cloth to make it really smooth. Shouldn't have a problem with that club again. It is also wise to make sure your graphite shafts don't rub the top of your bag causing wear. This can also cause the shaft to break. I put a piece of clear tape on the shaft wear it touches the golf bag.

The supply houses should have them. They are usually called a collared ferrule, and sort of wedge themselves down into the hosel, typically into a matching opening left in the upper part of the hosel. I dont play Ping but understand that the hosels are .350. Check for slop with a dry fit or measure it if you are using a .335 tip. They would be very susceptible to breaking without a support. By support, include the idea of a brass shim on a .335 shaft. They may make a smaller ID ferrule, but I dont know.

Ok I really am not near any where that would make those though is there a reliable store online to buy from?

Hireko, Golfsmith. If you are gonna play with clubs, spend 20 bucks at a hardware store and get a cheap digital micrometer. It will save you some bucks.

No mine and stays pretty dry although I have only had it for two years

I have southern humidity. I guess I will try some dieletric grease.

    • Lately, I feel that sometimes I stand over the ball a little too long and I twitch my shoulders like a spaz. I have been playing really well, but feel that I need to get set and go. There is always something to improve on.
    • Things are moving quickly this season and I just knocked off the hardest hole on the back nine. I have the number 1 handicap hole still on the list and two others. Since early retirement, this playing 3 times a week is working out pretty well!

    • Day 35 (26 Feb 25) - Day of easy work (hanging around the house as son had shoulder surgery and I needed to help keep an eye on him).  Worked on low spinner 50deg wedges - keeping the ball low flighted and checking quick.  Went with the 8i after to do low flighted runners.  Great visit on two ways to get the same/similar results.  May be able to get away tomorrow for a short 9hole round (as long as the son's recovery cooperates).....
    • Day 1: 2/26/2025: So, I'm starting over on this again.  My son brought home the mother of all flu bugs from school. It raged though our house and knocked me on my butt for about 3 days.  Now, that I think I'm clear of the death plague my son gave me. I was able to rise early this morning and get some nice mirror work in. I felt stiff like a board for the first few swings, but loosened up and was able to get at least 20 minutes of first robotic slow swings and then gradually more fluid swings.  My focus was on the timing and fluidity of my priority pieces.
