After round one the German Martin Kaymer is leading by one shot but there are plenty of people hot on his heels and the world number one Rory Mcilroy isnt far behind yet he apparently hates this tournament. Will Kaymer stay on top or will he be chased down.

Guess who made the cut at Abu Dhabi?  That well known, remember Augusta National from 2 years back, the now 16 year old, Chinese lad, Mr. Tian-Lang Guan.  He is still playing as an Amateur and beating many top pros, who must be fuming.  Imagine, a kid half your age and you playing 20 years of golf at a top level being bested by some youngster from China.

Well, Kaymer certainly laid down the hammer today. I hope no one planned on waking up early to watch the final round tomorrow morning.

No kidding! 64-67-65 sure gives him some breathing room in the final round.

Kaymer loses 10 shot lead.  Now, with 4 holes to play, GStal at -18, MKaymer and RMcIlroy tied at -17.

Wow! Kaymer also birdied 3 of the first 4 holes. He got to -23. Now he's -17, two strokes back.

Stal wins. Sensational, can't remember seeing before someone giving away a 10-shot lead with 14 holes left.

Very unlikely winner, GStal of France wins with -19. RMcIlroy at -18, MKaymer at -17.

Congrats to Stal. He beat a current and a former World #1. That'll boost him up from #357 in World Golf Ranking. Triple bogey on 13 for Kaymer hurt. He had shot to win his 4th time at Abu Dhabi.

Remember we saw this a lot at the beginning of last year, too....maybe not to this magnitude, but the theme early last season was the big names choking on the last day and no-names winning. Rory McIlroy at Honda.....Adam Scott at Bay Hill....Rose in Tampa....Bubba in Phoenix...Kuchar in Houston. The last two weeks already we've seen Walker and Kaymer throw away leads, although Walker can make up for it today. But maybe it's just early season jitters for the big boys, I don't know. But today was unreal. Never would have thought that would happen.

Was disappointed to see McIlroy putt so poorly, went up to the tour on Saturday.  First time ever going to a tour event and was amazing to see some great golf, unfortunately not from my compatriot.

Tee to green I thought rory was brilliant , as soon as his eye is in he will be unbeatable this season imo

Agreed, he was brilliant until he got to the green, was such a pity to see.  Looking forwards to getting up to the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in 2 weeks to see him there

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
