I'm thinking of adding another wedge to help my short game. Problem is though, if I add a wedge I go over the 14 club limit, so I 've got to drop another club, but which one?

I did talk to one person that said he subtituted two hybrids for his 5-wood, 3-iron, & 4-iron (how he did it I'm not sure). Other than that, I'm not sure.

Has anyone else added a wedge & dropped a club?

Traditionally when one adds a wedge they usually drop a long iron or fairway wood. Personally, I added a wedge by replacing my 3 and 5 woods with a 4 wood.

Start going over your golf season and think about clubs you never hit or maybe hit once or twice a round. I only carry two woods, so it was easy for me to make room for my gap wedge. Now, I've added a hybrid so I'll eliminate my 3 iron which I hardly ever hit anyway.

Just go over your own game, and look at what you really hit and what sits in the bag week to week. Then make the appropriate changes to strengthen your game. It may vary from course to course, but you can adjust for that.

You're a 36 handicap, this is easy. I would suggest:

Driver
3-Wood
Two hybrids (anywhere from 21-29°, IMO)
5-PW
A heavy, high-bounce 56° sand wedge (for sand/rough "explosion" club)
Two wedges, maybe 52-56°, lighter and with less bounce (for tighter lies and controlled shots from 100yds and in)
Putter

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

Where did you find a 4-Wood? I've been debating getting one of those and I can't seem to find them. What's the loft on it?

The current one I have (Adams) is 17* that I got at Dick's Sporting Goods. But, you can find a plethora of different manufacturers' 4 woods on Ebay. Or you just go online to Golf Discount, TGW, etc.. and see which manufacturers have 4 woods available by looking in the fairway woods section. When you go to order one, a 4 wood will pop up if available.

I just settled on this solution myself. I wanted to start carrying a lob wedge and jockeyed around a few club combinations until I found a 4w that fits my game.

I have been thinking about the same sort of thing. I am getting a 17,21 and 24 * hybrid, then going to play titleist 695.cb 5-pw (no fairway woods). Then will have 50, 54 and 60 wedges. Do you think that sounds all right. I have lost all confidence in my 3,4 irons as i shanked them twice today

    • Feel like you are left side dominant. Keep the back of your glove running through impact. Keeps leading edge down without digging. You will pick them clean with some zip if the grass is nice and generally acceptable results off anything less than ideal. Works with both hingy or dead hand pitches and chips.
    • Day 52 (30 Apr 26) - Had planned a solo round, got invited to be part of trio that included a fmr mini tour pro.  Was fun playing back a set of tees and having to stay in my game plan. Both were very engaging and encouraging in the round.  A good day in working through and making smarter shot choices.
    • Day 576 - 2026-04-30 Put my playlist on and slowed down a little as things were meh. Mostly got to an exaggerated P6 and hit from there.
    • I mean, a golfer is trespassing and damaging property. So, golf rules don’t supersede state laws. 😉 Like, if it isn’t marked and is off golf property. The right thing to do is take an unplayable lie or take stroke and distance.  Also, this is a liability for the course. The homeowner could easily say the course is liable for damage done because they knowingly didn't mark their boundaries which allowed golfers to trespass and damage property.
    • Interestingly enough, if the course (the Committee in Rules terms) doesn't mark the boundaries, there is nothing out of bounds.  I realize that neighboring homeowners would take a dim view of golfers whacking balls from their backyards, but that's what the Definition of Out of Bounds requires. "All areas outside the boundary edge of the course as defined by the Committee."
