So as of recent almost two months now, I have gotten really serious into golf, well something I really want to strive to get decent at......recently I went to my local pro am shop to pick up the taylormade R15 driver after using an R11 a co worker let me try. I figure the adjustable weights could help with my slice that im dreading to figure out how to cure....so long story short, I ended up buying a TP R15 without knowing what it really meant......yes I know its my own fault for not asking.........went to the driving range n tried smacking the last ball with everything I had only to end up topping the ball and denting my driver underneath on the left side of the loft adjuster screw.

so question, how does this affect my driver? and how much could I possibly sell the driver head for?

Taylormade generally gives you a one year warranty. Call them.

And bring up the fit issue too. Callaway gives you a playability guarantee and lets you switch between the Big Bertha range if you don't like it. Taylormade may do something similar.

even if I bought it from a pro shop and not from taylormade?

Well the playability thing I don't even know if they offer, but the warranty claim you make to them directly, not the pro shop. In any event, talk to their customer service and see what they'll do for you. They're generally pretty great. I mean, you bought literally their most expensive product.

They'll probably have you send them your driver, and since in likelihood they can't fix it, they'll replace the head. Seriously, call them.

Call 'em. Can't hurt. Tell them how recently you purchased it, they might just send you a new one.

i gave them a call and they said that kind of issue can't be covered under warranty.......then they said to go to my local pro shop where I purchased the driver and have them look at it and if they think I can file a warranty then we can go ahead and do that.

so when I go golfing on Friday im gonna head to the pro shop and see what they have to say

so....dents don't come under warranty......pro shop told my friend if had a crack on the face of it i could and that it shouldn't affect my driver much, but the fact that i know having a tour preffered driver ain't gonna benefit me makes me not wannna have it at all anymore.

how much you think i could actually sell it for?

That's actually kinda impressive. I would not have thought a driver could dent like that. I guess with lighter and thinner materials the ductility actual goes up a bit. I think Taylormade is showing bad form in not replacing it. Though I could say that the bottom of the club is not intended to be used to strike the ball. I think in the end Taylormade has no clue if someone actually did that while making a legit swing or out of anger. That is a very auspicious location to hit the ball with on that club. In the end it's just bad luck that you missed the club face entirely. On a side note. An all out swing should never have a chance of topping one that bad ;-)

Well I keep trying to work on something new to figure out to hit my driver with good technique n on that day that all out swing was a bit out of anger n frustration......but went to the range today (after having read Ben hogans five lessons to better golf) and am getting some great results now. Guess I'll just keep the driver after all, just a sore eye to look at that dent but I'm very satisfied how I am hitting with my driver now

that dent looks like it came from bringing the club directly down onto the ball, like an overhead tomahawk slam straight down.

You get a guy with about a 10 degree outside to in swing path, and a very negative attack angle and I can see that happening. It is amazing that he missed the SLDR slot there. You'd think that the ball would catch that channel.

Possibly, but if the ball was teed up there's no way it makes that dent. If the ball was on the ground, maybe, but the dent would've been longer, front to back, as the clubhead traveled over the ball.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
    • Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
