I came here to ask if I was getting the club far enough back/what stretches I could do to help go further... Saw Robbo68's post, but I didn't want to hijack it, so I'm starting my own thread. Here is a quick video of me a couple days ago: Sorry about the quality/portrait view. I haven't swung a club in 4 months and I noticed I wasn't getting the club even close to parallel. Is it something I should work on or just leave it be?

Your swing looks flat to me, and the shoulders, I would try to bring that club back more on the takeaway, keep it together longer, and then get your hands up higher, maybe a bit more hip turn.

It's definitely flat. I compared an old video from behind to a couple pros. Big difference. My next indoor range session is Saturday, I will try to raise that up and see what happens. I'm amazed I have never noticed that.

Its ok that its flat. You need to loose some flexion (straight the right leg a little more during the back swing to get the hips to turn more) in your trail leg. That will help to get the club more parallel at the top.

Do the drill I posted in Robbo68's thread.  When you do it, take notice of where the shaft is pointing when you turn. If you are pointing too high, then your shoulder turn is too flat.  Post this drill in a video in your My Swing thread.  It will be helpful.

4. One exercise for more flexibility and core strength.

This one move is not going to give you the body of Arnold Schwarzenegger but it will help in developing flexibility and core strength.

Get in your address position (with the proper posture that you’ve been practicing), hold your 5 iron at either end and lay it behind your neck, across your shoulders. From there, turn into your backswing, while keeping proper posture with a consistent spine angle, and hold the position at the top of your backswing. You should feel your core muscles being engaged at this point.

While you’re in this position, take note of the angle the shaft is in across your shoulders. When you make your downswing, make sure to emulate this same angle when you are at the point of impact. Your hands on either end of the shaft should be in the exact opposite positions that they were when you were at the top of your backswing.

Complete your swing to a balanced follow-through. Do this for 15 minutes a day and you’ll find you’ll have a little more core strength at the beginning of the season and a lot more flexibility.

I agree. That also causes a flat swing as well. If you keep your knee flexed then the hips can turn too shallow. If you let it loose flex then the right hip is allowed to rotate on a better angle and increase the turn.

For the OP, as for shaft parallel at the top. I wouldn't worry about it. Just make the best turn you can, as long as you are not adding length by over swinging the arms then you are fine.
