For comparison, I use Shot by Shot and here are some screen grabs of the stats I have so far. I have only entered 8 rounds so some of the data is a bit skewed, but you get the picture.

I've  been using golf pad for my android devices. There's enough data now for me to pinpoint my strengths and weaknesses. I know my main weakness is the tee. I'm 68% fairway accuracy but that's because I have been avoiding my driver which is short and crooked. I'm leaving my self out of gir range on a few par 4's where I could get on the green.

This means I'm rescuing bogey 5's instead of putting for an easier par. So strokes gained applies to my handicap level. My misses off the tee are more right than left which isn't  too hard to work out with the longer clubs. It's  a high miss and short losing me vital yardage.

I've improved my long game hence my handicap has dropped by 14 in the last 2 years. Still a way to go but now I know that once I'm closer to the hole off the tee more regularly then my gir percentage will increase.

I've been using GG, and I still need to work on approach shots. It seems to be a never ending process. If I get a decent drive I still have to hit that approach shot. My FIRs could be better, but the misses aren't as bad as they used to be. Last 5 rounds are over 50% FIR, and I'm in the playable part. But my approach shot is short or off target. Second shots on par 5s could be better.

Putting is a priority next season.

The GAME Golf is adding a strokes gained feature to the web software soon here (and in the apps after that).

Natureboy,

Thought you might like to see that strokes gained stat per stroke that you were asking for.  Here's my putting results this year per stroke. the image is a bit compressed, but it reads well enough on the site.  Just look a the different tabs along the top of the graph you posted and you'll see the per stroke options.  Per stroke tabs are there for progress over time graphs also.

I think my 'ideal world' chart is more like the type (bubble chart?) below that show's two different value dimensions in the same data point. For SG putting I would like the chart above to have a bubble centered over the per shot value and a bubble sized for frequency (percentage) of putts at that distance. I would probably want the same thing on the per round chart. That way I get one chart showing a potential weakness and relative significance of the distance (long lags from 90 feet tend to be statistically infrequent e.g.). I would expect that the relative 'weakness' at 5 and 6 feet is much more significant to your scoring because of the likely high frequency of putts at that distance. I think this is also in Broadie's range of 'most important' putting distance.

Here's the coolest chart I'm able to get that sums up 20 rounds from SandTrappers of various skill levels:

1b3d8091_ScreenShot2015-09-30at9.30.36AM

Each point is a range of values (0-20yds, 20-60yds, 60-120yds, 120-170yds, 170-220yds, 220-250yds).  It is straightforward to keep track of every shot in those ranges to compute the average proximity to the flag after the shot, as well as the average number of shots to hole out from there.

The blue circles are higher than the green circles, meaning it takes more strokes for us to hole out from each distance than PGA players.  The blue circles are larger than the green circles, meaning our average proximity is larger.  (this is a summary of mostly 90/100 scoring rounds, but there are a few 70s rounds thrown in).

Without going to strokes gained at all, you can visually see by the heights and sizes of the circles how you're doing from various ranges- all because you track distance and like of each shot. I think that's kinda cool.

There isn't a way to also show frequency of shots at each distance is there? Maybe an area chart in the background using the secondary axis? If so, that would approach my 'ideal' for a SG chart.

Kevin

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
