I wonder what happened to him..

He got worried about his privacy once you started asking about his name, school, marital status.

He got attacked and likely left for good. Even if he was embellishing he could have been welcomed less harshly. Maybe he would have come out of the clouds and been a solid member. Wouldn't have been the first time...

Why do alot of people lie about their scores and distances...it's internet inflation. If he is really shooting those scores and hitting the ball 330 with little effort...why didnt his coach or other players tell him he has a shot at going pro.

So playing hockey means you have the fundamentals of golf down?!

I played hockey as well, the main things it has to do with golf is hand eye and leg strength...I know a lot of people that played hockey that aren't good at golf at all...

I'm not saying some of it isn't true, but where did he go?!? Since people have questioned him he hasn't been back...I'm just saying the stats to me seem to be a little inflated.

I am pretty sure he was joking.

I mean attacked? I don't think so- he should have a little more common sense than that. It was a troll I am sure. "I am a +4". If you know what a "+4" even means, chances are you know how good you are. Common sense would also tell you that if you are winning every tournament you would play by 6 strokes you may as well go on to the next level.

Yes and you have done this before. Remember Phillyk, sure you do. It's your thing to call out other low handicap golfers. There are more tactful ways to ask someone to validate than curb stomping them. It's a social forum not a prison gang jump in.

Embellishing?  I think not.  Made up was more like it.   My immediate impression of the post was that he was likely trolling and enjoying our reactions.   This being his very 1st post, his outrageous claims (can hit 330 yards easily, got to +4 HI without much practice, ...), were dead giveaways IMO.   Number of the TST members (not the most politically correct bunch anyway) saw through that and responded accordingly.    Some were actually giving him a chance to provide more data.

The kid should give it a shot if that's what he wants to do. If it is all fake, he should grow up. I play with my nephew, who just gave up ice hockey in his mid 20s, probably played at a similar level.  He has only been playing golf for a few months. I think the skills translate. Of course this kid has zero illusions of becoming a pro, but he got from shooting 100 to in the low eighties just since last summer shooting from the blues, without a huge amount of effort, range a couple times a week, plays once a week.  But I am sure that further improvement is going to be more difficult. He is no better at putting than I am, maybe a little worse. I have never seen him make a long putt. But the kid had an uncanny ability to score in ice hockey, hit open spots on the net. He was just too under-sized to make it D-1. I think the muscles are the same and the skills seem to be similar. Especially awareness of the club face.

EDIT: I missed the part about the +4 HI. Never mind.

Good recovery, Moppy.

(I think I saw a thread about how hard it is to be a +2 from scratch.   +4 HI without much practice would make him the most talented PGA tour golfer wannabe I am aware of.)

He played hockey. He WILL become successful as a PGA Tour player.

That's why we know he's telling the truth.

Anyone who has played baseball has to be a fantastic golfer and I'm assuming hockey is the same.

330 doesn't take great effort or even sound mechanics.

We are talking internet golf and not golf, aren't we?

Course records are a dime a dozen.

The only people who are questioning him are haters and jealous people who can't break 110.

The onus is on you to prove he isn't what he says he is.

Nah I saw the post of a young person, possibly not mature enough to see the irony, coming to a forum as a new member trying too hard to make a splash. It wasn't a calculated attempt to wind anyone up. There really isn't a need for members to go all regulator on someone like that. If you think it's ridiculous let the thread die. It's no more productive to bitch slap the kid. With all the problems in the world an unrealistic thread on a golf forum shouldn't matter much.

Dave, you are a better person than I am.   BTW, if the mod didn't close the Amanda/Duffner divorce thread, they won't close this one.  There's a thread that has nothing to do with Golf or Tour Talk forum.

But it's a golf forum.

Why not just respond to every single threat with a dismissive "First World Problem" retort.

If a 14 year old gets on here saying he will break par in 2 months, but currently can't break 100, or says they have no back up plan, and there fore HAVE to succeed, you can humour them to a point.

Tough love isn't about hurting feelings or being mean.

Those types disrespect our game and clearly don't appreciate good golf. This is why Dan is such a tool. He is totally focused on magazine covers and interviews. He is seeing himself as a bit of a celebrity, but reality will bite.

I work too hard for mine, so of course I want validation. Is that fair? I asked 3 simple questions so we could take a look at his scores- I didn't know that was not social? Also- I am pretty sure that plenty of people have come and gone on this site from similar attacks. Maybe not in regards to handicap, but definitely in regards to their opinion on golf. If you are a true +2 or +4 these questions wouldn't bother you in the least.

No need to humor them, no need to respond at all, their distorted reality isn't harming anyone. If someone is that out of round a little tough love isn't going to change anything. Kids dream and speak about it this isn't a new thing. We've all been there.

Make haters your motivators- duh. Dave if you truly think this post was legit, something is wrong.

Not sure how you came to the conclusion I think his post was legit from a response that mentions distorted reality and dreaming.

If he wasn't a troll, he was delusional (not meant to be mean here, just referring to his confusing, contradicting, outrageous goals).    I read most of the "the kid's" posts and some of them were very articulate, a bit hard to believe they came from a 14 year old.   Then again, it could have been just me.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
