Hi all,

I will be in Knoxville this Sunday and I am looking for a course recommendation. I'm a 5-8 HCP and am willing to pay up to 75.00 ish, maybe more if something is really great.

Prefer to walk if possible but understand that many places are cart only on weekends.

Thanks in advance.

A few years ago my wife and I were in the area, and played at Avalon G & CC in Lenoir City.  I just looked at their website:

http://www.avalongolf.com/

and it seems like the price is within your range.  As I remember, the course was in good shape, nice layout with elevation changes, overall a good experience.  They do say golf carts are required.  Good luck!

the only thing wrong with this car is the nut behind the wheel.

Check out WindRiver, it's in Lenoir City, just west of the city. Haven't played there, but it looks nice. You can also look at Three Ridges in east Knox County. Been a while since I've played there, but it was nice. When I lived in the area, I played at Lambert Acres in Maryville a lot. It's a decent course and fairly cheap. Has a great view of the mountains. If i think of more I'll post. Let me know if you have any questions on courses and I'll help you out if I can.

Thanks for the recommendations!

golfadvisor rated

Sevierville golf club highly. I like that they have 2 18-hole courses to make a day of it.

seviervillegolfclub.com

Any ideas on these?

Unfortunately, I've never played Sevierville Golf Club. It does look nice though, and scenic. And if it's rated high on golfadvisor, I don't see a reason not to play. Let me know how it was.

River Islands in Kodak, between Knoxville and Seiverville is an Arthur Hills design that plays along the French Broad River. Weekend rates with cart are $59 or $49 depending on starting time. The course opened in 1991 and I played it a few years after that with a group of former UT football players. The layout is classic Arthur Hills and very scenic. It's a course that I would like to play again, but have not made it back down to the Knoxville area. Give it a look.

For some reason, I thought they closed this course? Its a good course and definitely worth looking into if you're around that area.

booked river islands in the AM and might try to get a PM round in at sevierville. Sevierville has the womens south atlantic conference tourney on one of their courses.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Played river islands course this morning. GREAT setup if you like a challenge. lots of water and trouble. Greens were just waking up so there were some dormant places. Not country club upkeep and the bunkers were rough but I really liked it.

liked it enough that I replayed there.

78 and 82 left a few out there but happy for first time playing.

Is that the course with the French Broad River running through it?  It's a hoot to play when the river is in flood.  And if i remember correctly, power  buggies only, or ride a horse, as the track is long between some holes.

    • Day 314 - Putting some things together. Better grip/setup, fuller backswing, better finishing position. Filmed some swings, happy with the progress.
    • Day 130: did a stack session.
    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
