So i switched to stack and tilt, and have begun hitting a nice draw off the tee. Trouble with that is i am hitting a draw when i shouldnt sometimes. Mental errors. Yesterday i shot a 39 on the front and then starting playing with things on the back and ended with a 46 like hitting a big draw around a dogleg to find out it was an optical illusion and i hit a great ball right into the trees. Unfamiliar with the course obviously. But anyway just wanted to lament having a new shot be like a new toy, and cant help but use it even when you shouldnt! But still. 85 is my best this season and i was happy to have it. The draw added distance and helped. Stack and tilt made my ball striking improve quite a bit

The swing is prone to draws and hooks. Drive more with the hips and your trailing leg to counter it.

Good tip thanks. I didnt have any hooks. But a straighter draw would be nicer. Right now the ball is moving about thirty yards. So i have to trust it. I hit one striaght and was in the rough right. Luckily it was a forgiving hole

Thirty yards of movement right to left? Is it pushing that far right, then returning to the target line, or is it ending up left of your target line?

I stack and tilt on the long irons and woods. Allows me to hit down on the ball with the fairway woods. I don't do this with my irons because they tend to pull left or hook badly. 30 yards is a bit much if your on tight fairways.

Yes the thirty yards is push right off the fairway, then returning to center pretty consistently. I am not drawing the irons hardly at all and am happy with that. I use an old taylormade driver that has weights set to draw. I think ill move them back to neutral and see if that takes it to a more normal draw. It is hard to count on it drawing that much. But i want to continue to hit the swing because im driving an honest 250-265 now. 25 yards better than my straight ball old swing

I have been literally doing the same thing and it drives me crazy I can draw it on command darn near but I can't control how far it draws usually just aim a little more right but over time it becomes a problem..... sigh.

I switched to stack and tilt once when I was in deep slump.  I couldn't make it my swing and switched back.   It's easier to hit a consistent draw with normal swing.  Put it another way, I found it hard to hit different shots using S & T.  If S & T works for you, more power to you.

I mean no offense by this, but you didn't "switch" to the swing. You may have done something a bit differently (and probably not as differently as you think), but you didn't "switch."

I'm saying this not to defend S&T or anything like that, but to continue to try to disavow golfers of the notion that they "switch" to or "try" things out, and then either accept or abandon them based on their results. It's silly to approach golf that way, and does not make you any better. PGA Tour pros can't "try" wholesale swing changes out in a span of an hour or a day or a week or even a month - the average amateur can't do it either. Look at how long it's taken Tiger to incorporate relatively small changes in his swing, and remember he works at it about 10000x harder than average golfers.

No offense taken.  I think your are correct in saying the above.   That's exactly what happened.   Like many things I "tried," it was probably done incorrectly and got my swing into worse shape before I decided to take lessons.

S and t works for me. N or at least all the parts i can execute now. I knoe i have some old swing in there still. I can still fade. I can draw. And i can hit striaght. Trouble is just amount of draw. But i am going to work on this alot today

From what I have read, I am pretty sure that the swing I have developed is S&T like. Probably from getting so much swing advice from this forum. It has certainly gotten rid of my slice very effectively though I still hit a fade. So I googled S&T.; Is it true that in an S&T swing, your hands are not not really forward of the ball de-lofting the club? (Keep your arms straight) I have been adding this lately, and this is the only way I can get the kind of distance with my irons, for example, that averages you read around the net say I should get.

The other thing is that I feel like my legs are just along for the ride in my swing, not affirmatively adding power.  Maybe I am heading down a dead end?

What works for me is setting up striaght on the ball. But when i swing through i try to have some lag for speed and that effectively does deloft me. I have a 160 yard 6 iron, and 120 yard 9 iron currently to give you an idea of where i am

On the legs thing, they are very active in that the leg leg thrusts up on the downswing, adding power by the bundle. The hip slide seems pretty important to my shots as well, for good contact and therfor power. But i dont have it all nailed down yet. And i am no single digit.

    • Day 272 6-1 Larger focus on wrist arching tonight. Getting chest through with speed was the secondary. Foam balls
    • Has anyone played around with "My Strategy?"  It seems they've revamped it -- I remember not liking the interface a while ago.  Today I went over a course I play semi-often and was able to designate a tee box for each hole, then choose a a club and target direction and it put my scatter pattern for that club off the tee, showing average SG for fairway / rough / bunker (if appropriate) / green.  I could change the club and see how another behaved.  It wasn't clear to me what I can gain from this, or where the follow-up shot supposedly originates, but it is neat to look at it on a map. What motivated me is that I'm debating taking less than driver on one of the par-4s next time I play this course, probably 4-Wood.  I have found myself, sometimes off of a good tee shot, playing my second shot from the tree line, as the fairway slopes strong left to right.  I don't think I've even had a near-GIR on that hole in 2026 (6 rounds at this course), and it's my second-worst strokes-gained hole, playing to an average of 5.3 for me -- the only worse is a hole where I've hit an O.B. en route to a bogey and also managed a triple bogey another round. Scattering my 4W pattern off that tee shows a higher strokes gained, but then again, hitting that club is far from a guarantee I won't fade it a bit and roll into the tree line, now further back from the green.  And I haven't hit a bunted driver in a while, maybe I need to practice that shot, but that isn't something this feature can show (since it doesn't know why my tee shots ended up where they did).  Then again, it might not know where I was aiming for my tee shots either. On a related note, I am finding their course analysis tool interesting, especially when I can sort by strokes gained average and also determine which hole(s) I'm playing to what stroke average.  Interesting that the #2 and #4 handicap I'm averaging under bogey, while 5-6-7 and 12 handicap holes I'm averaging over bogey.  The hole I described a moment ago is the #12 handicap.
    • Day 28, June 1.  Went to a course near me while running errands to practice putting.  I wanted to chip also but their chipping green was closed. I did my 4' and 6' drills (around the clock, but with the goal of making each putt twice, for a total of 24 from each station).  On the 4' putts, I took a total of 32 putts to sink all 24.  I'm very happy with the 75% make rate (scratch one-putt at that distance is 80%, bogey 65%). For the 6' putts, I took a total of 52 putts, for a 46% make rate (scratch: 55%, bogey 39%).  That's an improvement I'm happy with, and I'm aiming to do this drill once a week for a while, now that my putting (over the past five rounds) is better than the 10 hcp baseline (I'm a 10.7? 10 point something as I type this), which is far better than 6-7 months ago when I was losing strokes to the 25 handicap baseline (I really should write up what I did to improve over this time).  Amazingly, on the 6', there was one putt (approximately coming from 10:00) that I didn't sink at all in 4-5 passes and then was the only coin remaining, and it was face up.  I could've sworn it would break right, and I kept missing it left, and when I finally aimed straight in, I made two in a row.  Maybe it was one of those rare (?) double-breaker 6' putts.
    • This is feeling like the club is at P2. To get lower launch angles I have to feel like I’m dragging my hands through impact just delofting the crap out of the club.  This is trying to stop at P2.5. The consistency in launch angle gets worse. Contact gets worse.   trying to go P3, things get more volatile. The more I increase my swing length the more I can’t lower the dynamic loft.  Edit: these are with my 56 degree.
