Hybrid advice

Hi all, Looking for a bit of friendly advice! Have played very casually 2/3 times a year for as long as I remember but this summer decided I was going to start playing regularly and really get into the game. Had struggled to hit woods before off the tee so had bought a howson driving iron Few summers ago, similar to a 1 iron I believe. Have been playing regularly last month or so and have had some success with the driving iron from the tee. Most of the time solid contact and distance but usually way right and now sometime left! Don't get me wrong I can crush it a good distance and a few times a round I get it perfect but it's inconsistent. Been reading up and it seems I may have been making things hard for myself, not an easy club to master the driving iron? Also been reading that a hybrid may be my best bet from the tee? Can anyone recommend a good forgiving hybrid to start off with? Would be looking at second hand until I really got the hang of it. My scoring about the moment is around 100 a round but generally keeping it straight off the tee is my main problem. Thanks in advance!

The TaylorMade Rocketballz hybrids (the green ones) from 3 years ago are good, solid clubs.  These are designed to help get the ball in the air and should be much more easy to hit than a driving iron... although a rock attached to a stick may be easier than a driving iron :)

You can find loads of these clubs used for pretty cheap and I think this will be a good start for you.

+1 TM RBZ. I've got the 3 Wood, 3 and 4 hybrid ill switch up depending on the course. I've tried new ones and always go back to them. Ebay has them pretty cheap now. Toss the driving iron! Hybrids have helped me and are a great investment! Good Luck!

Yeah, I used to carry a 2-iron + 3-iron, but hybrids killed those off for me.  I think they launch higher and stop better if you hit into greens with them.   I feel like I get good roll with them when I hit them off the tee, although a friend of mine claims his stops more than his 3-iron, so depending on your swing your mileage may vary.   But they are extremely useful clubs.

From the tee they are a great option to help stay in play since they won't go as long as a driver or 3W to begin with, but also they are easier to hit and make a decent shot with, IMO.

Adams also makes solid hybrids (TM owns Adams these days). Several varieties, including some user-friendly ones such as the V4 and the Idea.

Also, some golfers complain that hybrids are "hook machines." If you have good clubhead speed, you might try some hybrids with lesser offset in the heads if you have initial trouble with hooks. Also, test out various hybrids and see if lightweight or midweight shafts give you the best results.

Hybrids are great for control on those short, super-tight par 4 holes. You can be in the fairway and still have a short iron into the green, rather than punching your ball out from the treeline on your second shot.

Callaway x2 hot and x hot hybrids are very good. They are easy to launch and look great at address. They are also very forgiving on off center hits which is nice.

If you're shopping used, I'd look for Nickent Ironwoods. Excellent hybrids, super solid feeling at impact and easy to launch. X-hots are a great choice too.

Agree with this - I have a the x hot 3+4 but that x2 hot 6 i have feels like i am cheating.
