Hey everybody,

I finally got the OK from my dad to use my grandpa's Ping Eye2's

I was wondering if you guys have any helpful info on these clubs. The set is 1iron thru sandwedge. The 1 & 2 iron and sand wedge have the ZZ lite steel shafts. 3-wedge have K-shaft. The sand wedge is the only blue dot club in the set. I was just hoping some of the guru's could give me some specs on the shafts, dots, and clubs in general.

I have seen some threads about restoring them. I'm sure this will be an upgrade from my wilson's, especially after I regrip them. Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Cris

EDIT: Ok, so I found the pat. # 4.621.813 and found out that these were the "new" eye2's made before march 31st, 1990. I got the lofts and whatnot, but still wondering what a bluedot sandwedge is all about. Thanks again.

I'm only at 13 clubs in the bag, what do you reccomend as a 14th? My foot wedge?

Hey everybody,

K shaft is a senior shaft. zzlite is the standard Ping shaft of the time and it's light and stiff.

The rest of the clubs are black dot.

I'm wondering if the senior shaft is a bit much for me. I hit the clubs VERY well at the range yesterday. Not quite as much distance, but definately more straight shots and my mishits were a lot better. The mishits with my wilsons would be like the paparazzi, just all over the place. With the pings they are pretty much straight, just short.

When you say the bluedot is one degree up, is that on the loft or the lie? If its the loft, then that would make it a 56.5*, and i'll just keep hitting the cleveland.

As for the 1 iron...i guess i'll try to hit it and see what happens, I typically only play with 5-sw for irons, I have woods and hybrids that I hit better than a 4 iron and up.
Thanks again for the info, we'll see how they do on a course this weekend.

It's the lie that varies by dot.
Mine are White - 3* up, which is probably a bit much, but I was fitted for them 10 years ago by someone who hopefully knew what they were doing, they seem to work for me, though I'm only 6'2. I just bought a couple of wedges in Blue dot so I'll see how big a difference it makes - I'm guessing not that much on the wedges anyhow due to them being so much shorter anyhow.
Can anyone speak to this? It seems lie adjustment is most critical on the irons, but less so on drivers and wedges - just from what's available out there off the shelf. Wedges you're less likely to take a full swing, whereas drivers are so long?

not drivers not so important because they never hit the ground and wedges dont really matter cause of length but on irons it is so important because if the aren't level when they hit the ground whatever end hits first thats which way the ball is going to go. like if the toe hits the ground before you hit the ball it will drag the clubface open and you will hit a push/slice.

The Pings should be a great set for you once you get fresh grips. Don't rule out the longer irons as the Ping long irons are some of the easiest to hit.

The senior shafts (K shafts) are softer than your zzlites. You probably hit these shorter because they have weaker lofts than today's clubs. A Callaway X 20 PW has 45 degrees of loft. A Taylor Made R7 PW also has 45 degrees of loft. A Ping Eye2 9 iron has 45 degrees of loft.

The new popular brand clubs have just changed the numbers on their irons, so you think you hit that brand farther. Marketing!

    • Long time creeper, but had to join today to ask a question. Today was playing in our clubs Sunday money group. We played all 18 holes and was settling up after the last hole. The groups about 9 guys. Most I play with every week. A few I play with once a month or every other month.  I shot well and was owe a small 3 digit amount from a few players. That's when the guy I don't play with often walks up and says he isn't paying because I had too many clubs in my bag. We walked to my bag and I counted my clubs and I didn't have too many. He then states look at the back your bag there is another club. Low and behold my 7 years daughters putter is in the umbrella hole as its been for the last year when she stated coming with me and wants to putt on the greens. All the other guys looked at him but he refuses to pay me out but pays everyone else. Whats your thoughts. All the other guys paid me out.
