I went looking for apps for the phone the other day relating to golfing. and found a flood of apps. but I didn't want to go through 80 apps to find one wondering if anyone had knowledge of a good app preferably free and android. hopefully one that has easy marker lines that can be added. if I spend a couple dollars on one I want it to not be a shot in the dark and a really good one.

What kind of app are you looking for? A golf gps app for on the course to measure distances?

I have plenty of gps/course maps on my phone. I need one specifically for taking video of my golf swing. I've seen several analyzers and ones that turn on when it detects movements etc. but the reviews are all over the chart. then they have swing analyzers that require add on parts to the club or wrist or something. but not into paying that much.

just need something to record few seconds before movement and something that has lines that can be added in so I can check angles.

(sorry thought I had that information in the original posting)

I don't know if V1 Golf makes an Android app, but the iOS version does what you're looking for.  Take a look and see if they have a 'Droid app.

I like V1 golf.  I use it on my Samsung S3 (andriod).

These are Samsung S3 screenshots of videos in comparison mode.  I took the video of me, and downloaded from youtube the video of Na Yeon Choi (I really like her swing).

I see at address that she has bumped her hips a little forward giving her a tilt, a verticle line from the ball hits her by her left ear, she's looking straight down at the ball.  My hands are forward at address, I don't have the tilt and the verticle line is near my right ear. my face is not pointed as down towards the ball.  Her head stays steady, mine moves about 2 inches back and stays there (I should just start there like she does and my head will stay more steady)...

This is LSW Key 1 stuff, which I continue to work on.  There is a lot more to see on these comparisons, but I'll just work on one thing for now.

    • I believe the golf courses are leaving some opportunities on the table to educate and even insist that folks repair ball marks and fill in divots. They can and should put up signs strategically of what is expected. It may not cure the problem completely but it certainly would raise the level of awareness and improve on the status quo. Edit: I think the courses should straight up empty threaten folks that they would be asked to leave if found to be leaving ball marks unrepaired. Seriously.
    • Yeah, that's fair.  I'm not sure what the solution is.  I do remember "back in the day" when the ranger would remind you to fix your ball marks. I don't see that anymore either.  I guess my point is. I grew up in a time when fixing your ball mark was "cool". Because it meant you hit the green and made a ball mark. It's just not cool anymore.... which (in my opinion) is too bad.
    • To be fair, I don't watch golf YouTube videos to watch guys fix pitch marks, I watch to see the content/golf so it makes sense that stuff like that gets edited out. You don't see them replace/sand divots either but I'm sure they do. (At least the ones I watch that are very high level golfers. Bryan Bros, Grant Horvat, Peter Finch, etc)
    • I think the popularity of watching youtube golf shorts may also play into it. Very rarely, if ever, do you see a golf influencer fix their ball marks. Perhaps that's part of it.  I know it bugs me.  Like many others I always fix a few extra ones when I'm on the green.
    • A busy cocktail of apathy, indifference, lack of ownership.... and then throw in a dash of entitlement to top it off. Ya know, the usual ingredients.
