I'm personally much more comfortable with my irons, so I choose to hit a long second shot with a 3 or 4 iron rather than hitting it with a 3 or 5 wood. I also like keeping at least 2 or 3 high lofted wedges for my short game, so I vote for a 52.

I find both kind of essential but if I had to choose one I would go with a 3 wood. My current bag is:

Putter, 60, 54, 46, PW, 9 , 8 , 7 , 6 , 5 , 4, 2 hybrid, 3w, 1w

How about both? Use the 3 wood on longer courses or courses where you'd use it often, and the wedge on shorter courses to give you more accuracy closer to the greens.

I normally use a 4 for second shots on par 5s and I have a 56 and 60 degree

Do you mean a 4W or a 4i? If it's a 4W, you might keep it... many golfers find they can hit a 4W more reliably - and sometimes farther - than a 3W.

Then it seems like you have room for a fairway wood and 52 degree wedge?

I think he means 4 iron.
