Imagine you have a 14 year old male who is a transgender (i.e. he feels his 'gender expression', female, does not match his biologically assigned physical sexuality, male).  He doesn't take female hormones, he hasn't had sex change surgery.  From physical appearances when naked he looks 100% male.  He showers in the female locker room at school after P.E. class in an open shower room with 13 and 14 year old girls.

That's what I'm getting at.  Wouldn't there be a concern by some of the female children and some of their parents in this situation?  Shouldn't they be taken into consideration?

That is a valid point; however, I don't think transgender people are stoked about having or expressing the anatomy of their biological gender.  From what I was understanding from watching the show, Jazz had not had gender reassignment surgery but was taking hormones.  She was incredibly self conscious about covering up anything that associated her with the male anatomy.

As far as the thread topic goes ... I just don't know.  Well, as far as those born men who are transitioning to women.  I imagine nobody thinks the other way around is much of a problem.  This makes me think of the end of The Incredibles.  The little kid (who is a superhero with speed as his power) is running track and has to come in second so as not to rouse the rabblers.  Any transgender females who compete against born women are not going to cause any problems if they fit in with the masses ... but if they stand out and dominate?  That's gonna be a big problem.

Here's the video:

I agree that female to male transgender people who want to compete in male sports will be seen as a non-issue.  Primarily because females playing male sports is usually allowed.  You make a good point that this will only be seen as an issue if the transgender athlete is dominating in women's sports.  However, I think that ability should be irrelevant in this debate.  As I stated earlier, it is not like we allow boys who are poor athletes to play in girls' sports' leagues.

I am curious if you are allowed to change from day to day, hour by hour. I'm thinking this is a nice way to move up to the red tees if I "happen" to feel like a female when I go to tee off.

You may be looking at this a little skewed. Has anyone ever officiated any gay sports where they even segregate? Male, female, mixed.

Also, I don't think just saying "I identify as a girl" qualifies you as a transgender.

A male identifying as a girl (or a female identifying as a male)... that is pretty much the definition of transgender.

I wouldn't think they'd need to dominate to cause a problem.  Once they start placing high enough to make prize money they'll be taking money away from those that placed behind them.

I'm old enough to remember Renee Richards compete in women's professional tennis...

For definition purposes, she was a transsexual which is a sub group of transgender.  In other words, not all transgenders are transsexuals.

And on a personal note...

I had a bone marrow transplant and my sister was my donor.  My bone marrow, blood and immune system are identical to hers.  My blood type changed (from O+ to B+)... and more on point to this thread my blood chromosomes changed from XY (male) to XX (female).  Maybe I should get to hit from the red tees.
