I have a friend that has been playing golf anywhere from 5 to 6 days a week for the past few months. Sometimes we will play 36 holes a day. He notices a huge difference from playing in the morning vs. Playing in the afternoon. In the morning, he feels weak. He describes the "noodle arm" feeling and a "lack of control over his body" for quite sometime. He doesn't usually eat in the morning, so that was my first guess to his issue. He's tried waking up earlier, eating, stretching.. Its starting to affect his tournament play when he has early tee times and it's something he wants to gain control of. Can anyone tell me what may be his problem and potential ways of fixing it? In saying this, I am not saying on days that he plays 36 he gets better the longer he plays. This is morning tee time vs. Afternoon tee time. The only thing I can truly think is that his muscles "aren't awake" but i would love a better answer with information to back it if at all possible. Anyone else struggle with this?

Sounds like his blood sugar or electrolytes are out of whack in the morning.  Does he take medications at night that could have residual effects in the early morning?

Some people are morning people. Some people are not.

I am not a morning person. I am totally unproductive early in the morning. Breakfast doesn't matter. It didn't matter how early I went to bed and if I got the proper amount of sleep. My shift started at 7:00 and I was still a zombie until about 9:30. From 9:30 - 11:30 the caffeine would kick in and productivity would be twice that as my co-workers. It was just the way I worked. When we had flex time I set my hours for 9:00 - 6:00 but then a change of management moved them to 7:00 to 4:30.

So it is the same on the golf course. My league plays at 8:00. If I eat a breakfast, the front 9 is interrupted on the fifth hole for something that takes some time. I'm a zombie for the first four holes, then I start playing better. I usually pack a maple bar with me which I have on the fourth tee. Then order a hot dog at the turn (9:45). Yeah, health, health, health.

I shoot about 5 strokes better in the afternoon than I do in the morning.

When I allow my body to set its own hours it naturally goes to waking up at 9:00 a.m. and going to sleep at 1:00 a.m. It just functions better during those hours. I'm not a zombie when I wake up. I hate early morning tee times.

I can get up , work, do everything ok in the mornings. Not golf. I do better with 1 o'clock or later tee time. Early play doesn't work. My timing is off, balance, eye coordination, etc. I feel as if I'm going to hurt my muscles, or over stretch something. I've tried exercising and stretching, etc., but it doesn't help. jack

I typically practice at the same time I play golf (11am) so I don't typically have an issue but I do have to eat something or I'll not feel right.

I can't help here. When I'm up, I'm up. In fact, I may be the opposite. I tend to be a little more run down in the afternoon than the morning. I haven't played early in the morning in quite a while, so maybe the real early tee times may affect me as well. No noodle arms though. I workout with weights on a fairly regular basis.
