S58 vs. X-Forged

HELP!.... This is an agonizing decision, I'm buying my first set of "players clubs" and I just can't make up my mind.

Can anybody speak from experience on their results with either set of irons?

Between those two options, I would say the S58s. Callaway does not have a history of good player's irons and the Pings will be an easier transition into player’s irons.

s58, i have never hit them but i have hit the x-forged, and they are as mean as irons can get. They are extremely demanding of the player, and i dont think that many 5+ hcps should be playing them. If you feel like your up to it, they (xforged) are wonderful feeling irons and you can hit any type of shot you want with them, just make sure you flush it every time.

X-forged are'nt the easiest clubs to hit, I also hit the S-58's a little easier to hit. If you are going to spend the moeny I'd hit every club you possibly can, cuz thats what i did. I ended up with the R7 tp's, they look and feel like a blade at address, but are still very forgiving, plus they are sweet lookin.

I couldn't agree more. I had the X forged for a few weeks and liked them but the balance of the shaft (DGS300) club feel was way off for me. It felt like I was swinging a brick on the end of the shaft, but the swing weight was D2. THEY are one of the best looking club on the market right now. However I went and demoed a R7 TP with the X forged and the feel was so close I could not feel the difference. I ended up selling the X forged and picked up the R7 TP's and they are by far the best iron I have ever hit. They are forgiving, workable and solid. May want to look at those also. ALSO the misses on the X forged were much more damaging then the R7's and I don't have many misses. Usaully have the little dime sized scuffs on the club, but with the X forged I KNEW when it was not perfect and payed a much heavier price then with he R7's. JM .02

S58's - easier to hit that X-forged, and if you're playing off 9.6 - more suitable as you won't be flushing every iron.

Great clubs from the rough, pitching around the greens and long irons off the tee. I got them as my first set of "players clubs" and it would want something special for me to take them out of the bag.

I neved considered X-Forged but picked them up in golf shops/pro shops, they look like blades. The Pings don't. That alone makes me feel more comfortable over the ball, as on off-strikes it still gets in the air and travels towards the hole.

interestingly.... US Open Champ (Angle Cabrera), Womens British Open Champ (Lorena Ochoa) but have these in the bag, as well as 6/20 of the Walker Cup 2007 players.

you might want to look into the Cleveland CG Reds that were just reviewed on TST. They sound the perfect fit for you, at just under a 10 handicap

I thought the Callaway X-Forged were on of the easier irons to hit, being as they aren't techincally 'blades'. (not in the way that Titleist 695 's are, anyway)
