I'm retired and reside in rural NE Texas. I played a lot of golf from my 20's to early 40's , but none since. I was never much of a golfer, but was usually able to score fairly well due to pitching, putting, and keeping the ball in play. Never carried a handicap, but usually scored in the mid 80's. I got a set of used clubs about 6 years ago with the idea of playing again - doctor said walking would be good exercise. However, I still have not been to a golf course. I have plenty of room to hit balls at my location and I do practice from time to time. I have kept up with golf through the years  and it's amazing how instruction and equipment have evolved. In my day, video cams, simulators, and launch monitors were unheard of. Sometimes, I wonder just how much better some of the old time greats like Hogan, Sneed, or Nelson might been with today's clubs and Titleist pro v1s.

Welcome to the forum. I am also from Texas but now am in Arkansas, but will be moving back when I retire. Used to play a lot in Fort Worth back in my 20's

Coincidentally, I played many of the muni courses in and around Ft.Worth in the 70s and early 80s. Usually after work for 9 holes. Weekends. on most of those courses were extremely crowded then and I imagine it's worse now. You'd wait on 2 or 3 groups ahead of you to tee off while they waited on the group on the green that were taking multiple reads from various angles and plumb bobbing  each one with their putter as though they were playing for a US Open title -just to much role playing going on for my taste.. I didn't even carry a putter most of the time, just let my 1-iron double as a putter, took one good look and just hit the damn thing. Of course, the courses in a rural community are much less congested; I stopped by one some years back when I was thinking about playing again, just to get some info - nobody on the tee, but a lot of guys in the clubhouse drinking beer and telling lies. Most guys that reside near me  farm or raise cattle and don't play golf, so it would be a little tough to get a group together to play anyway.
