Driver was a lot of toe pull draws or hooks.

Irons work themselves out a bit. Better.

Distance wedges were solid. Short game a mixed bag. Misread a couple of lies.

Putting was really good.

Played in round one of the course championship at Manakiki. Schott and 83, a 7.5 differential. That was with 3 tee shots that were lost balls, and one more that ended up in a lateral hazard. I will say overall off the tea was way better than it has been. This course is kind of extremely tight. Overall, I was pretty happy with what I shot.

I had been in a bit of a slump for the month of June. Handicap index has slowly risen, and there were few sub-80 scores. Today was a different story at Leslie Park GC. Lots of solid shots, GIR's, up & downs, for a 77 (7.8 differential). As with most rounds, there were a few loose shots and crappy putts, but it was a good day.

Shot a 37 today! Palmer Course, PGA National. Really fun. 6/9 GIR, no lost balls. The double and the bogey were both three putts from like 35 feet or so.

The birdie at the last was really fun. I stood over that fifteen footer and thought wow I’m really about to make this, aren’t I? And I hearted it. Really fun. It’s like 9000 degrees outside but I battled through it well. Good times.

Shot a an 82 (8.9 differential)

Just tried to stay patient with the swing. Pause at the top of the swing.

Got off the tee well. Irons were ok. Short game and putting were break even.

Shot an 85, good for a 13.1 differential, despite three double bogeys (one each on par-3, par-4, par-5).

Had a bit of a roller coaster round, especially the first nine. 3 birdies, 1 par, 3 bogies and 2 doubles. Shot 40/37 (7.8 differential) at my home course, Leslie Park. Second nine was less "exciting."

Played the Oak Tees at Musgrove Mill in Clinton, SC, yesterday. First round in 14 months. Hit the first 2 greens - parring the first and three-putting the second. Difficulty with iron distance control. Hot day and really got tired on the back nine. Hit some great drives, and wiped a few. Looking forward to playing again soon.  Handicap is the highest ever!

Best nine hole round. Just playing a cut off the tee. My mantra is be patient at the top of the swing.

5/9 GIR with 5/7 in the last 7 holes. 50% scrambling.

Played 9 holes at Woodfin Ridge from white tees. Had to stop after 9 due to the heat. Hit 6/7 fairways but only 2 GIR. Hit most approaches heavy. Only 2nd time out since May 2025. Poor iron play, poor putting, poor chipping, but really good driving except for the 9th hole.

Hit some good shots. Had to stop side bending off the tee and distance wedges. Hit a 5 iron to 13 feet on a par three and 6 iron to 18 feet on a par three. Just good execution on my swing.

    • Keep at it. You will see improvement. It just takes a lot of time at our age.
    • Day 645 - 2026-07-09 Played the Matchbox again, and hit a bunch of shots on the main course at Tobacco Road… but was mostly making sure one of our playing partners didn't die on the course.
    • A small mistake that worked out great. The hole location was very far back and way left. A small mound on the green hide the hole. I hit my 8-iron approach planning to be a bit right of the hole but tugged it a little left of where I wanted to be. Went straight at the flag and disappeared behind the mound. I thought it could be good and it was, 6 inches from the hole.   p.s. Yes, I managed to make the birdie putt. 😉
    • Per conversation with @iacas yesterday, resetting my work to get my trail elbow high and in front of my body. Not sure of the hand path or incline or hips or anything here, but only priority is to get comfortable with the high trail elbow.  I couldn't feel where the clubhead or the shaft is in this swing at P4 and admittedly it is terrifying to not sense my elbow close to ribs and behind me so building trust is a stout challenge. Having said that I think I am better positioned to not fall off the wagon now that I understand the 'why'. Will see. I've made promises to myself before.
