Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2016 Nominees

Today I saw an article listing the new nominees for induction into the RRHOF:

I cannot think of one song that NWA did that even approaches rock and roll yet somehow they are a nominee. I grew up in a time when NWA was really strong and lots of kids from all walks of life were listening to them and other artists of the rap and hip hop genre.  The only rapper that I think would have even a snowballs chance in hell at making it into RRHOF would be Ice-T and not as an individual artist, but as part of the heavy metal band Body Count which has been around since the early 90s.  

NWA being a nominee into the RRHOF is as legitimate as Phil Mickelson being a nominee for the UFC hall of fame!  That is not a knock on NWA but a criticism of how ridiculous the powers that be in charge of the RRHOF have gotten (the list is long but this the icing on the cake in my opinion).

The whole thing is a bit of a sham. I watch it to see the acts, but what did Boston, The Doobie Brothers, Meatloaf, Blue Oyster Cult, etc. do to piss of the RRHoF? They had more hits, more number 1s, longer careers than 3/4 of the RRHoF, but not even a sniff. Recently, deserving acts have only gotten in when nominated acts made a stink about it. Re: Heart and Joan Jett (both deserving IMO).

Add to your etc: Thin Lizzy, Duran Duran (say what you will about them they have been cranking hits since the 80s so guess can throw Depeche Mode in as well), lots of Metal Bands including Motorhead and Journey. How in the heck is Journey not in the RRHOF (maybe its a Boston thing)? 

I read an article from a guy who was on the nominating committee in 1992-1993 and he wrote for Billboard about what a joke it is, they showed him the door real fast.  Apparently they are more interested in which nominees will help sell tickets, not the nominees most deserving to be in the Hall of Fame.

It's an absolute joke. I like NWA...but a couple years of fame and a few key gangsta rap hits does not qualify you for the R&R HoF. It's just a joke. 

 

Hell, it took KISS 40 years and 50 hits before they got nominated...and they're actually a Rock and Roll band.

Just looked....they have 2 studio albums. How does a group with 2 studio albums make it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

 

That's like a Football player who wins Rookie of the year and then retires making the MLB Hall of Fame...
