Tee Shot ...I just have no confidence right now but I am working on employing more of this shot into my practice. I usually only hit 10-15 balls at the end of a range bucket wth my 3 wood. I think I need to practice this shot more so I can be more confident. I am a 14 handicap and only hit 4 fairways a round. My goal is single digit so I will need to double that to 8...

I really have a hard time off the tee. And my long irons are really not giving me much distance lately. I'm barely getting 160 - 170 with my five iron, and I'm a big dude (6'2" 289lbs)....

The hardest shot for me right now is about 90-110 yards from the green. I have trouble judging distances, and I usually overshoot or undershoot by about 15 yards. It sucks. My GIR is really bad right now, less than 30%. I'm really trying to work on that right now. Hitting a lot of range balls with my 8i, 9i, & PW.

You and me both. If I could hit my tee shot with confidence and some consistency, I could break 100.

I've seen a lot of folks here claim handicaps lower than mine while talking about not breaking 100. My (unofficial) handicap is 21.5 the last time I added a score and I haven't had an over 100 round in ages. I've been close a time or two, but the majority of my scores are in the 90-96 range with a few (wonderful) days below 90. Maybe we're using different software.

Our indexes are fairly close, and my scores are very similar to yours. I've had a few rounds of over 100 this year, but that was on courses with slope of 130+. I'm like you, typically in the low 90s.

The best possible scoring record he could have given the circumstances (10 scores of 100 exactly assuming 70/120) produce an index of 26.9.

Please show the long math here. I think I'm doing something wrong. I get 27.1 for index. I'm sure it's my bad. But I agree a person not breaking 100 cannot have an index of 21. I come in at 88-95 most every round and course is 67.2/119.

Hitting to a small green over a lake from an uneven lie about 150 out. I can do it reasonably well but I still find it hard no doubt

The only way I can think of is his home course is Augusta National (153 slope if I recall correctly). If his scoring average was say, 105 for the better 10 of 20 rounds, that'd be 33 over par. That's still 23.41. I'm not sure how to figure in course rating but it's around 76, so it might be possible but I doubt it.

My toughest shot is remaining calm. Funny, when I played baseball and made an out, I looked forward to my next at bat. Sadly, that mentality does not exist, yet, for me. I'm sure others are in the same boat...maybe...I hope.

Seriously, though, it's putting. I played Wednesday. Really good ball striking. Seven greens in regulation. Seven!! The result? Two birdies and five, yes, five...bogeys. Ah, the three putt. Miss the cup by a ball on each side, two feet past the cup. Take your time and make par, right? Nope, "I'll just finish up" and leave it short. Hey, those count on the scorecard. What annoyed me the most was that I shot an 88. That should have been an 83 and with any luck, an 80.

A lil off topic but what do you think about when you miss a putt you should have made? Making the next one? Or is it "How could I have missed that?"

Without doubt: playing safe.

You're faced with an awkward shot. You're in deep grass or have a tree problem or whatever. You've played remarkably well up until now. You have studied and practised getting-out-of-trouble shots in Pelz' Short Game Bible. You holed out from the fairway on the previous hole. You've seen the pros play shots like this from much tougher lies. If you get on the green from here, you'll probably win the club championship. Etcetera. Etcetera. Etcetera.

A simple chip back towards the fairway will almost guarantee you a perfect lie - the safe play. Without doubt: the toughest shot in golf is to play safe.

I really need to work on my approach and sand wedge shots. They probably add about 10 strokes that are unneeded to my gain. Putting is okay for me, but could use some work.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
