McIlroy regrets not taking the eel option, gets food poisoning, makes funny use of emoticons, Branden Grace 1st round lead.

McIlroy 10 back, but at least he's not tweeting stinky air emoticons.

No roots, right?

Don't worry kiddo, most of that is water.

Fowler tours Shanghai, tries to play the drums, iron shot rebound tags a fan, gets stared at by concession van guy (that's the best part imho - dude is like who is this?)

Spieth longest drive, 337.

Ian, Ian, Ian, Ian can't putt Poulter.

i know nobody cares because TW isn't playing, but some pretty good golf going on here for us fans of the sport.

Spieth could have gone really low, he missed several short putts and still shot 63. Food poisoning is a bitch, thus it's hard to fault him but Rory's putting is pretty bad. It's becoming the norm rather than the exception since his return from the ankle injury.

I've never seen 1 player in a group opt out of playing the final hole or holes; he just walked the 18th while Kis and Grace played.  Odd decision on Knox's part, I think.

Maybe it wasn't you, but if it was… you can be a huge fan of golf and still only want to watch when majors are being played OR Tiger Woods is playing. Not watching a tournament that's on at a weird time of day does not mean you're not a "fan of the sport."

And yes, there is some good golf being played right now.

For me it's either majors or Bill Murray is playing...

    • Bryson got hit with a 2 shot penalty, after the round, for improving his lie on hole 5.  Here is a post on X, showing how he stepped on high grass when he was looking down his target line.  When they cut to the side shot, you can see how close he was behind the ball.  I think the R&A probably made the correct decision. You just have to be really careful when you are walking in the high grass, around the ball and where you are to make a swing.

    • Day 27 (17 July 26) - Normally an 18 hole day, but due to commitments abbreviated the round to 9 holes (played the back nine at home course).  Had a solid session where even the worst miss (tee shot off 18) was fully playable.  Shot a solid 39 (6pars, 3bogies) - not dbls, no three putts - just boring golf.
    • Overall, well said. People have to be very careful in trying to describe very complex problem in simple terms. In this case, it is a clear fundamental misunderstanding of Newton's 1st and 3rd laws.  To clarify more on the misinterpretation of Newton's 1st law. The exact interpretation of Newton's 1st Law....  "Every body continues in its state of rest, or of uniform motion in a straight line, unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed upon it" yea, a body will stay motionless unless a force acts upon it. An object will stay on its path of motion unless a force acts upon it.  I get it, complex physics problems are difficult. There is a lot of simplification done in most physics class when it is taught. A classic problem uses a frictionless surface. Projectile motion excludes drag and wind direction. Collisions are usually elastic. The golf swing is not a simple physics problem.  Yea, I think they got caught up the data on the graphs and are not truly understanding cause and effect.  If the golfer isn't first pushing into the ground, then the ground isn't going to push back.  The internal forces of the body create the motion, not the external forces from the ground. The ground isn't like what Psy uses to start his concert. 🤣 You probably need to be connected to the ground and have those GRF to help the body produce the motion you want. Your body has to move in the right way to produce the GRF which helps you move the body in the way you want. Body motion precedes the GRF.
