I might get the boot from this forum but here goes..... in most threads, polls mainly, the questionaire gets more flack for his poll instead of straight answers.I think I will stick to observing if allowed. Thank you (players)...who gave answers and not comments.byebye

This is vague, and I want to understand. Can you give an example, or point me to a thread that had this problem? Hell, I might have stepped on toes, and I want to know. . .

Two examples offhand:

One poll asked what major was most important, or that you most want to win, etc. Each option had a choice next to it; PGA Championship said something to the effect of "you're an idiot if you select this." Some - myself included - gave the poster (of the poll) grief for it. Another asked how far you hit your 5-Iron. The first option was less than 140 yards, the second had 150 as a lower bound. I remember giving some grief for this on account that my 5-iron distance is about 145.

I can only guess that it's because you don't use paragraphs, punctuation or capitalization. ;^)

You don't get booted for having an opinion.

I think in some cases, the poll or thread is one that has been rehashed several times over. A quick use of the Search function prior to making a new thread or poll would probably cut down on that.

I'm guessing this is in response to my response. If so:

I didn't imply they were. Those were two polls in which the person who wrote it got some grief for the poll, and why I believe the grief was given. If you have a specific poll or thread that you're wondering why a response wasn't given, let us know.

Flash, you gave an opinion, which is fine, so here's mine:

1) You posted a LOT of questions shortly after registering. You should have used the search feature to find existing threads rather than starting new ones.

2) Your posts tend to exhibit poor grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. Even the first comment here alludes to the vagueness of the point you're trying to make.

3) Your threads have been rated lower, my memory tells me, than most other threads because of these facts. Perhaps some people don't read low-rated threads. This thread, for example, is rated 1 out of 5.

Although I'm fairly new to this forum, I haven't really noticed much of what you are talking about, but I'll take your word for it. I am a member of another forum (different sport/activity). In that forum, there are a lot of people who just like to give others a hard time. Some of it is brutal and constant. If you can sift through most of the garbage, there is some great info by people who want to contribute. Like I said, it must be so bad in my other forum that I don't even notice it here, if it occurs. My advice would be to develope some thick skin, ignore the garbage, and listen to the people who care enough to try and help you. If you stop asking questions or leave, you'll only be hurting yourself. Also, some sarcasm and dry humor doesn't translate to well when typed. GL.

Now, now...no need to get nasty about it. I think you're being a little too sensitive dude. Oh...and see those "Shift" keys on your keyboard? How about that long key at the bottom center with nothing written on it? Yeah....how about giving them a try? It's easier to read when those keys are used correctly. Forums are all about giving your opinion, ranting, raving, agreeing and disagreeing, etc. Don't let it get to you if people go off on tangents or attack the thread itself. As long as it doesn't get too ugly, it's all good. Now, get back on that thing and post away because, really, nobody cares powerfade

Hey flash - sorry to hear about something so tragic.

Don't be so hard on yourself. While this isn't a forum that people come to for 'laugh out loud' entertainment, it shouldn't get you down either.

No apology required.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
