Good morning folks,

I'm just curious on how to judge the gap distance between driver, 3 wood, and 5 wood. As rule of thumb, or at least what someone told me, the distance difference in each iron (7 to 8, or 8 to 9 etc) is 10 yards.

Is there any rule of thumb or some kind of guidance that apply to driver, 3 wood and 5 wood?

Thanks
Steve

Good morning folks,

I've observed a similar rule of thumb for my irons: every degree of loft difference is 2.5 yards, and most of my irons are 4 degrees apart.

I estimated my Driver-3W-5W at 15 yards apart at one point. I haven't included my 5W in my set in a while though. If you have the driving range to yourself (relatively) someday, hit a few with each and estimate their distances. This is good for any club. Otherwise, play a round and pick some straight par-4s; hit driver off the tee and measure your estimated distance on several and take averages; make notes of weather conditions. Repeat this with your 3-Wood someday. If your score didn't suffer too much, try this with your 5-Wood.

My distance between irons is 12-13 yards on average and about 20-25 yards between the woods.

Thanks for the replies guys. The problem is I'm not consistent enough with the clubs. You know, sometimes you hit it clean and most of the times, you're not however it's good to have a rule of thumb/guidance.

Thank you once again.
