How to buy new clubs

I've only had 1 nice set of clubs since I started playing ($400 Cleveland) . I'm ready for some newer model GI irons and am trying to figure out the best way to do it. I don't want to order online or go to the local Academy store. I'm thinking of going to a PGA Superstore or Edwin Watts to get fitted and have a pro put me on something that best suits me. My only hesitation on this is that they will just try to sell me something and move to the next guy. Any suggestions on the best way to buy new clubs?

This question will only bring the same suggestions given by members.

You have to try clubs, find a brand that you will like.

Then if you have a specific question on a certain brand, members can comment/relate, make suggestions.

Okay, so despite our best advice on the other thread, you have the new equipment bug -- nothing wrong with that virus, we all tend to have it.

It is just tough to fit an individual until they have a consistent swing. But you can start with static measurements at address, swing speed, lie angles, grip size, and then choose an iron or two or three that fit your present ability and looks good to you ... you've got to love it.

And then hop on a simulator or go to a range, and see what happens.
