I know this has been talked about many times, yet I can't seem to find any threads. I am looking for a quick refresher. What will the difference be between hitting a high spin ball vs a low sping ball off driver? I understand that a person's swing can make a difference, yet only looking for the basics.

The spin numbers won't be all that different, a little lower with the low spin ball. The swing is far more a factor. I recall Titleist stating that the distance difference between their highest spin ball and lowest budget, low spin ball was only 4 yards.

About 400 rpms for a 90 mph swing speed depending on the golf swing.

You would loose much more off wedge shots if you switch to a lower spinning golf ball.

Search golf digest golf ball hotlist on google images. You'll find a chart showing wedge spin versus driver spin for golf balls. Premium balls spin way more off wedges and slightly more off the driver.

Just reading this thread, and I have a small (maybe not very clever) question, does the increased spin on wedge shots from a high spin ball affect distance and how?

Maybe. Not entirely sure.

More than anything it affects ball release after landing.  High spin balls hit with high revs will stop or even pull back.  Low spin balls will drop and run forward.

Additionally a high spin ball will fly higher and essentially expend some of its energy in height and hence have lesser distance

Thank all. Makes sense as far a wedges and irons. Yet I am still confused as for the driver. I was hitting balls in Golfsmith last week. Checking my irons lie angles. Yet the guy was honest and told me to come back once I've been playing again, with a consistent swing. Rather than guess and take my money(gift card). So I bought some things and a box of balls. He ask about my drive length and suggested the ProV1s.  Ok. High spin ball, which would be good for wedges and irons, as you said. And after watching Chris DeMarco on Morning Drive: he said his swing speed is no slower and he needs more spin for driver distance, increasing the his driver loft, hence an higher ball fiight. Said nothing about the ball type. Now this is where I am confused. Titliest says the ProV1, more driver spin, has a lower ball flight.  YET the ProV1X has less driver spin, and a much higher ball flight. From a pro's perspective? So which makes more sense for distance for me? Obviously I don't want the driver spin to cause my ball to go other than straight. Once the weather gets more comfortable, I will hit both balls to see the difference in my drives, yet making the final determination around the green and approach shots. Yet as I said, I am confused.
