Hope this isn't a repeat. I searched and couldn't find a thread.

Today at the range I was messing with my posture and found some amazing results.

Two things I tried: lifting my chin a bit at the set up, and "sitting up" a bit more in my stance.

Has anyone out there experimented/improved posture, and how?

The summer after I graduated high school I worked at a golf course pro shop, and though I wasn't much of a golfer (then or now!) I would sometimes hit balls on the range during lunch or after I finished my shift.

An older man and his wife, both of whom at some point in their lives worked as golf instructors and who knew my parents quite well, were visiting the course one day and saw me slugging away at a bucket. They both walked down to the practice area and told me to "sit up." They said I would find it much easier to balance in that position and that by standing taller at address I would make better use of my "natural power." (ha!)

I am not any kind of expert on the swing and can't speak to whether a straighter posture necessarily produces more power, but when I begin to feel a bit unbalanced, I really try to get back into that "sitting up" sort of stance. It works for me.

I am constantly working on this and I try to make it part of my preshot routine. Having your chin off your chest frees your shoulders and having good posture allows for a balanced swing. Whenever I start losing my focus, I always go back to my posture and work on my address and things always seem to get better!

Keeping the chin up was a revelation for me too. Having said that, I dont know if what I am doing now is entirely the best for me.

I can always tell (after the shot) when I fail to lift my chin because I hit 'em fat. Needless to say the "chip up" is the trigger I use to start my swing.

If you have trouble on the last few holes of a round, check your posture. When people get tired, their backs start to hunch over, shoulders sag, chins drop, etc.

I do I do!

It never failed i'll be on track to shoot in the lower 80's, which is good for me. And bam hole 16 17 amd 18 hit. Fatigue sets in and my ball striking goes down hill.

    • 39/39/78 for an 8.7 differential. Ball striking was good. Putting and chipping was off just enough to prevent a very good score.
    • Worst thing on Sunday was that NBC and Peacock wouldn't let me FF through the commercials on my DVR recording. Very boring when a guy has a huge lead on the final round and everyone else is playing for 2nd place. At least it was USA 1-2-3 in the end.
    • First day of a trip to Bandon Dunes. We played Sheep Ranch today. A Coore/Crenshaw designed course. A par 34 on the front and 38 on the back. With 8 holes with either a green, tee box, or the hole runs along the edge of the bluffs at the pacific. It has amazing vistas. With wide fairways and intermixed gorse bushes. The defense of the course are its large, undulated greens and the daily winds from the north. Many times you need to take 3-4 clubs more, if you even barely cross the wind, your ball can be taken offline or come up half to a full club short. A fantastic layout.    here are some photos. 
    • At Sheep’s Ranch, Bandon Dunes. Shot an 84. That wind was nasty going from like hole 7 forward. It was like a 3-4 club wind if in the face. Greens are tricky with the natural grass. 
    • Yes. The full swing is not that different, and speed is important with all of them. You don't see Tour players hitting their driver 310 and then hitting their 7I 160. Of course, but they're nothing like those for the full swing.
