What to except!?  Been wanting to go to the Players for several years and planned a 4 day, 3 night trip to Amelia Island and got a 2-Sunday round Stadium passes for $50!

Never been to metro JAX (only 4hrs south of me) and any PGA tournament in general, so any thoughts, tips advice on the TPC sawgrass itself (merch prices, good spectator locations, etc) possibly courses to play around JAX and Amelia, etc.

thanks for any info you have....I'm aimed ?⛳️

P.S. Maybe Rickie will leave the high top trainers at the horse track ;)

Amelia Island is very nice.  A little further south, Little Talbot Island State Park is one of my favorite places.  If you want something historical, St. Augustine.

What to expect.  They handle the crowds really well and since the course was purpose-built for the tournament, there are seemingly unlimited spots with great viewing.  Of course a lot of people love #17.  You don't have to get there early.  There is plenty of room for everyone there.

Sunday round.   I've been to the TPC many times since I live in Jax, but I've never been on a Sunday.  I really want to go on Sunday this year.  Wish I had been there last year when Rickie Fowler birdied the 17th hole 3 times on Sunday.  That would have been a hell of a thing to see.

Man, now I'm all fired up and the tournament isn't for another 4 months.

Expect to hear from me a few times about how jealous I am!  One of my favorite tournaments and a city I've never been to, but is pretty high on my list of cities I'd like to get to at some point.

Thanks for the info, I can't wait myself. I was told by a friend that used to go every year when living there, "Get there early" when I asked about Merchandise?

He recommended hanging around 17 most of the day to see the island hole and is a good locale to see other tees/holes

I might have a change of plans and get Friday tix also. I know it probably want be as crowded and give us the weekend to play somewhere in the JAX area....brothers bachelor party weekend :)

whats food/beer/merch prices like?

I'm ready to give someone a big "mash potatoes....Gravy" on the tee! Hehe

Same here never been to JAX or any PGA tourney of this caliber!  It's only a short 4.5hrs from home and the stadium pass prices makes it a no brainer!

    • I kind of like this interpretation especially if you think about it the unplayable rule would probably put you in a better spot.  using back on the line releief.
    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
