Does anyone else putt with the ball far outside their eyes? I have always putted extremely well with my hybrid when just goofing around, so this weekend out of curiosity I took an old 38 inch putter I had and bent the loft to match my hybrid... The results have been quite remarkable... I am making EVERYTHING inside 12 feet... 5 foots literally feel like tap ins. For some reason it suits my eye wonderfully, the club head stays on line (Though that seems counter to physics of the swing), and feels like you cannot decelerate the club head. Has anyone else experimented with a method like this?

I would say generally not typically. It would probably cause issues with the path. I know when I had alignment issues with the putter I had path issues with the putter. Clearly it is working for you.

I will say that good putters do not accelerate through the ball while putting. Though you did say, "feels like". Feeling something in the golf swing or putting doesn't mean it happens.

I once read that change affects humans positively in the short run.  You may have discovered a technique that suits you.  Alternately this change may just have heightened your attention and focus for a short time.  Let's hope it is the former and not the latter.

I have never intentionally putted with the ball well outside my eyes or with an extremely "flat" putter.  Both seem to fall outside the conventional wisdom concerning putting.

My thinking as well. There are a lot of golfers whose garages are filled with putters because of this principle.

Valid points all... hard to argue when I am the owner of some 30+ putters cluttering my basement! LOL Oddly, I am generally a very good putter but, like us all, am always tinkering in an attempt to find perfect :)

I haven't had the chance to test this on anything longer than 18 feet (The max distance of my basement putting green). I think there is a good possibility things break down on the longer putts due to the increased arc in a longer club. Will let you know how it goes...

My putter is 35.5" with a 68 degree lie. My eye is about 1" inside the ball at setup. The flat lie was fit to me by a very good fitter in my area and my aim is very good. It is OK to have your eyes slightly inside the ball. Stan Utley discusses this in his The Art of Putting.
