The 4500 yard course is harder than your normal 6000 yard course? Wow, the greens must be little tiny patches on cleanly cut steep mounds? Or there are trees you need to hit over in the middle of every fairway.

Well, in any case, the 66 par should be roughly 6 strokes easier, and possibly even easier. We have a course Scholl Canyon which is pretty easy. Par is 60 and the CR is only 56/80 80 is the slope. If you choose the right clubs it is really easy.

Lol. Well, as a matter of fact, the greens are tiny and cleanly cut steep mounds. One fairway is literally 35 feet wide in the area where hacks like me tend to land, greens are somewhat deceptive, there are pothole bunkers and an uphill par 5 with a blind tee shot where the entire right half of the fairway slopes into the lake. The place is scary hard. Par is 66, i think the slope is 114.

but could be worse i guess, there are no trees in the fairways

I guess I do have some experience with this type of course. We have a par 3 course like this one in my town Really funky. :-D

As to the tree in the fairway I was thinking of San Dimas Canyon. Right where I hit my ball. . . :-P

As was already mentioned - par is not relevant to handicap so the specifics of your course would already be accounted for in its rating.

But surely different courses suit different golfers. As mentioned, my local course is very long, and I am not a big hitter. I have absolutely no chance of reaching at least two of the par fours in two shots, and I doubt I will ever reach 2 of the par fives in 3 shots. So as well as I play, I am already 4 shots down. A big hitter with less ability to myself arguably has more chance of parring these holes than me. On the other hand, I am quite good around the green, and a fair putter, so I would fair well against a poor putter on tricky greens. My point is that I may struggle big time on some par 70 courses, but do well on others

In my bag (Motocaddy Light)

Taylormade Burner driver, Taylormade 4 wood, 3 x Ping Karsten Hybrids, 6-SW Ping Karsten irons with reg flex graphite shafts. Odyssey putter, 20 Bridgestone e6 balls, 2 water balls for the 5th hole, loads of tees, 2 golf gloves, a couple of hand warmers, cleaning towel, 5 ball markers, 2 pitch mark repairers, some aspirin, 3 hats, set of waterproofs, an umbrella, a pair of gaiters, 2 pairs of glasses. Christ, it's amazing I can pick the bloody thing up !!

I struggle on shorter courses if it's due to an abundance of par 3's. Executive courses always seem tough.

This problem sounds easy to fix. Tee it forward. I can't imagine there being only one set of tees with that many 475 yard par 4 and long par 5 without shorter tee boxes?
