I've almost decided never to buy off eBay again. It's just getting more and more questionable what's real and what's not, and it's not worth saving money but not knowing...

I know what you mean. Last week, I saw a questionable looking(fake) Cleveland wedge in the used section of a local Golf Galaxy. Problem is the fakes will start to show up everywhere.

Even though it's going to cost a good amount more, I think, until a reasonable system is in place to verify ala Ping, that I will be buying retail. *GASP*

"If something is too good to be true, then it probably is".... that being said, I own a clone golf club website. We are very upfront with who we are and what we are selling.."a comparable version of the name brand". Our goal is to sell a high quality club at an affordable price. Our target is for the customer that can't afford the price of the name brand. The key to buying anything online is to do your homework and research the company:
- If on Ebay, what is there feedback and how much are they selling (feedback less then 98% is a sure problem)
- Check there return policy and warranty of the product
- Are they a member of the Better Business Bureau, even if they are not, go to bbb.org site and check them out. It is simple and free and can save you a big headache.

Which C has the raised dot? I check both my Cleveland wedges (tour action 900 54 and 588dsg 60). Neither have a raised dot. Do I have two fakes?

'C'leveland

only one C in cleveland Maybe it's only in newer models CG10/11..etc my fake CG11 has the dot in Cleve'l'and. "True Temper Made In U.S.A." black print has way wider spacing amoung "U.S.A." compare to those in retail stores. you can easily see here: http://www.saga24.com/ProductInfo.aspx?id=892

I think that i have potentially bought the same set of clubs as you, fake? I suppose its a possibility but from the looks and descriptions of it I would be tempted to say that they are not knock offs, but factory made clubs that didn't pass the high tolerances and quality tests made by companies

Either way i hit them really well, so can be as fake as a magician for all i care lol

I too was going to buy a set of clevelands or vokeys but decided to go the golf shop (Roger Dunn) and paid full price for new ones rather than go through ebay. I have a friend who has bought oversees via alibaba.com and found that everything he bought (about $600) were all fakes!!! Including Scotty Camerons...

New wedges (3 each) at $119.00 each or possible fakes at $195 for all three. Rather than chance it, I went the for sure way!!! Good luck to all puchasing on ebay...

I am buying a set of Driver, 3 wood, hybrid from a guy on this site and I called titleist and they confirmed that all three pieces via serial number where legit. Titleist even knew the loft and shaft for each serial number. That tells me the clubs have not been switched or tampered with...

i don't think its the possibility that he's chinese is the problem, most people run into fakes that are

from china. Him being chinese has no real effect on the club, and from the picture listed it looks legit, but ya get the serials checked, the TOUR hibore doesn't have serials, but i think the standard xl does.

    • Its simple, YOU are responsible for reporting YOUR score correctly, at every level of golf.  Do you imagine a top pro would really trust anyone else with his score? Without getting too far from the original post, the Rules have been revised every 4 years for decades.  They're continually evaluated, and most changes are in response to changes within the game.  BTW, if wind blows your ball off the green before you've lifted and replaced it, you play from wherever it ends up.  The TV call ins weren't a rule of golf issue, they were a PGA Tour issue, all in an effort to get the call right.
    • Someone asked what I propose. I think if the bunker is full of rainwater, you get to drop it with no penalty directly in back of the bunker, so you still have a tricky shot of chipping over the bunker. People are talking about local committees and such which we just don’t have at our level. My league and playing partners gave the free drop with no issue. My original purpose of this post was just to understand what the “real” rule is, and I now know. But now I also want to encourage people to see that many long time golf rules are outdated and illogical, and hopefully encourage people to push for change. They made some changes in the last few years, so I’m hopeful the game I love will improve if enough people speak out. A lot to hope for posting in a little forum I know, but you have to start somewhere.
    • You get a penalty stroke because your local committee didn't do their job, they didn't address the specific conditions using the tools available to them within the Rules.  The rulemakers contemplated just this situation, bunkers being so filled with Temporary Water that they're unplayable.  The only way to address it "fairly" is to allow free relief outside the bunker, and they do NOT want to allow that on an everyday basis.  So they write the rules as it is, and allow the Committee to override the normal rule in the rare instance where the bunker really is full.  That's what your "local league" does, they invoke Model Local Rule F-16, which treats flooded bunkers as both GUR and as General Area.  Relief from GUR in the General Area allows relief in the General Area (i.e. outside the re-defined bunker).  Its quite a logical way to approach a relatively rare situation. Separately, consider your concern about temporary Water in the fairway.  I've seen situations in relatively level fairways where the Nearest Point of Complete Relief  from Temporary Water is 30 or 40 yards away, further from the green, even in the rough.
    • There you go, @yungbuck6. Your hips aren’t really shifted forward and your head tips back. The camera angle isn’t good so what looks like hip slide could actually just be extension towards the ball.
    • But there's more to weight shift than just where you finish. How your weight transfers throughout the swing matters too.  But you're saying you can see it better than a device that can measure it? Got it.  Yeah I'm good here, good luck to whoever tries to coach you.
