DV8 Clubs

  1. 1. Would you like to build/deconstruct your clubs with every swing?

    • No thanks, I like my clubs all put together!

Has anyone seen anything like this before?  I'm not sure it would be for me.  But I could see this being used by someone that travels a good bit, but might not want to lug around a full size bag.  Would anyone here be interested in trying this?

I think that's pretty cool, actually, but really doubt how practical it would be. Can you imagine playing behind someone who had to assemble a new club before every shot? I'm sceptical as to how well this would actually work.

The main issue is it would make any round you played not valid. You aren't allowed to make changes to your clubs during a round. Also I wouldn't want to be bothered with assembling a club constantly on the course, would tend to slow down play.

All you need is one of these (and a quarter in your pocket to make adjustments).

Not legal either, but easy to adjust from driving iron to lob wedge and putter.

Kind of fun once you get used to the unusual ball distances and flights.. Yes, you can make pars and birdies with this thing. I have.

Heck yeah I'd use something like that if it worked well.  IMO - the rule about not being able to adjust your club during a round was created before the advent of adjustable clubs and, as such, true adjustable clubs are disallowed only on a technicality.  I can see no reason to disallow something like the DV8, no "extra advantage" that one would gain from using it.

Adjusting loft on a driver during a round could be construed as having an extra club that isn't counted . .so I can see that not being allowed.  It doesn't seem like the DV8's have adjustable lofts and lies so as long as you have 14 or fewer clubheads . . .I think the DV8 should be legal.

    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
