Hello fellow Tampa golfers. I live Just north of Westchase, and I am looking to join a country club in the area. There are a ton to choose from, TPC tampa bay, cheval ,fox hollow, hunters green..etc. Is anyone part of a club in Tampa, and would you have any recommendations for golf clubs to join ? Thanks buds

I don't live in the area but it might be helpful to those that do if you provided more information.  What amenities are important to you for a country club, what's your price range, how far are you willing to travel?

Cheval pissed me off. They used a bait and switch tactic and false advertising.  I reported them to Secretary of State for that type of practice. Looked like a nice place but I don't have time to deal with that. I'd rather pay as I go at my own course. Maybe one day I will join a private course when I have time to golf more frequently. Good luck.

I think I posted on here about it before. They had a print coupon stating 93 percent savings on a two year golf membership. When you went and talked with them about it though it was a different deal entirely than a golf membership. Between two people I talked to about it I also got two different answers as to what was included (not much btw). While we were there though they tried to get us to sign up for a regular membership saying right now they were waiving the one time fee of like $2K etc...and showing you and telling you how much better a deal it was.  So really the flyer was a tool to get people to come in and try and up sell them and if they declined and were stupid enough to take the altered savings package they would still make a profit on those persons.

It was total bullshit and I called them on it.  I had correspondence with a director there and explained clearly as well as sighted the consumer protection acts they broke.  She kept responding how she said this membership provided significant value at a deep discount and my response was "but you are advertising 93 percent savings on a membership, however you can not calculate the 93 percent savings because they are two entirely different products and the product at the savings price is not listed in any literature"  I then calculated for her and showed her exactly how they are getting the savings and the proof that the savings was against the regular membership.  I had half a mind to force them to give me the membership at the marketed price but who would want to have to go there and give other business (food and beverage) to a company that is as unethical as they are?  I'm happy to pay as I go and it made me appreciate other places much more.

    • It isn't about maintaining focus 100% of the time when you are on the course. It is getting focus back for the shot at hand. Even PGA tour players will chat with their caddies or opponents about non-golf stuff, but then lock in. It is hard to try to constantly be 100% locked in for 4+ hours.  Totally normal thing to happen. You really only need a few moments of focus.  This is where a pre-shot routine helps. Maybe you need to add something that gets the focus back.  I just focus on every shot like a puzzle that needs solved. I like solving puzzle and problems. So, I try to be curious. Which then enhances focus. I think it lets me take each shot at hand. It lets me have the down time between shots. What I do is just get to the ball, and then start gathering information. Yardage, lie, wind, where is the pin at, etc.. Then I figure out what I want to do.  It's not like I can't shut off the thoughts and focus when I need to. I only need to focus for a few minutes before each shot.
