Meaning, what tour player do you think is going to fall the farthest down the money list in 2008 compared to where they finished in 2007. I've thought it might be Paul Goydos (#78 on 2007 money list) but he will be in at least 22 events next year and might not fall as much as some others.

Henrik Stenson... pretty much had one BIG victory and didn't make much noise otherwise.

And apparently Luke Donald was in the top 30 for 2007. Other than earning in excess of two million dollars, exactly what did he do in the second half of 2007, say, post-US Open? In any case... I wish these two well, and I'm quite fond of them, but I think they'll fall a bit next year.

In terms of how much actually money someone might lose between '07 and '08 (not how many places on the money list), I have to go with Vijay Singh, who finished this year with $4,728,326 (3rd on the money list). Vijay had a disappointing end to the season, going T56-CUT-CUT-T60-T64-T7 in his last 6 starts (the T7 was in a 30-man field). He then posted 2.5 (of 5 possible) points for the International team in the Ryder Cup. Vijay is by no means washed up, but seems to have lost the fluidity of his swing, and his ball striking abilities have decreased. Let's say Vijay finishes 10th on the money list next year: he will have dropped ~$1.3 million (using results from 2007), about equivalent to a drop from 30th to 100th (again, using 2007).

So, because the differences in earning decrease as you move down the rankings (as shown above, a 7-place drop can be equivalent to a 70-place drop in terms of financial loss between two years), I would look for a guy who had one big tournament in 2007 and probably won't do much of anything next year.

What's in my bag:

Let's think positively, people.

Rooting against players that don't (in our eyes) have enough game and will have a fall from grace is disturbing.

You pull the wings off of flies and aim at the range pinker, too?

Let's think positively, people.

I'm not rooting against them. I want to see them succeed. It's just a prediction thread.

Easy there, Paul's my homeboy from the LBC. Actually, that's a pretty good call. But, he'll get a good start with the Mercedes.

I only asked the original question because as much fun as it is to see who is going to do better next year, it should be a legit question to ask who might head south. Please don't think I'm knocking any of the guys personally.

I did like the analysis of VJ. Some very good points made. I thought the same thing about his swing too.

It is.

Vijay's fabulous run after his 40th birthday is over. Els, Toms, Leonard, Verplank and Calcavechia are likeable players but not immune from impending decay.

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
