Was just looking at the official world ranking points and where Day sits. Assuming he wins the Memorial and given his current divisor he will probably end up just shy of 15 points opening a huge gap and daylight agead of golfers ranked 4 and lower.

In June 2001 Tiger had 32.43 ranking points. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th ranked golfers at the time, Ernie, Phil and Duval touched 10 or 11 points every now and then. Those are actually very good points, moreso given that they were competing against Tiger.

No point here really, just to highlight how good Tiger was at that time. :-O

Yes, when you win four majors in a row your OWGR goes north of ridiculous. Back then there was no one else. When Tiger showed up everyone else was playing for 2nd place.

While your point is dead on, about Tiger being dominant. The math itself has changed as the OWGR calculations have been tinkered with over time.

From the wiki page on the OWGR:  1996, the three-year period was reduced to two years, with the current year now counting double. Points were extended to more of the field, beginning in 2000, and were no longer restricted to integer values. Beginning in September 2001, the tapering system was changed so that instead of the points for each result being doubled if they occurred in the most recent 12 months, one eighth of the initial "multiplied up" value was deducted every 13 weeks. This change effectively meant that players could now be more simply described as being awarded 100 points (not 50) for winning a major. Beginning in 2007, the system holds the points from each event at full value for 13 weeks and then reduces them in equal weekly increments over the remainder of the two-year period.
