the only one that matters:

I dont know if I agree with that. Just because it isnt USGA, doesnt make it "not the same stats".

1. Yes, GHIN is the ONLY one that matters. Anything else is just keeping track for fun. Show up at a member/guest with a golfhandicaps.com hdcp and have fun playing as a zero giving strokes to everybody.

2. With all the freebie cpu programs, you could set up multiple accounts. Low one to "profile" with, and a high one for when you're playing matches. 3. You can't use a everybodylovesgolf.com internet handicap for tournaments that require you to be a certain handicap. Do you think they would let you play the Old Course if you showed up with a handicap from some Chuck-E-Cheese site? 4. Why would you even open the door to the controversy instead of simply paying the $35 at your local driving range or public course (if you don't have a membership somewhere) and setting up a legit card? These online ones are good for beginners learning what a handicap is, but once as you have over 10 scores to post you should get a GHIN card. Also, this is not a knock on programs like Scorecard, that track and follow all sorts of other stats for you. I'm saying the golfhandicaps.com sites are BS scams, and you're better off just paying the price of a dozen balls to get a legitimate handicap.

Why are they BS? I dont play in Tournaments, so why do I have to pay? If I do, it is for a charity foundation. You are taking it way to seriously. When I am a 2 or less, than it is time to take it seriously. But with me shooting right around 80 each time does not warrant me to spend the money to have a LEGAL Handicap. Im glad it works for you, but many do it for their own benefit, not because they have to try and prove to others what their legit handicap is.

I agree, I have a handicap for the purpose of discussing skill levels or playing with other players. I also keep it for this forum as well. When you are making a discussion, I can guarantee almost everyone looks at your handicap to see if you know what you are talking about.

I can tell when people ask a 3.0 handicap questions they would never ask a 36. It shows me where I am at, it keeps it secret. with the RCGA you can look up anyones name, see their handicap and see their scores. I have a bunch of ego maniac friends, in which handicap is everything. I don't want them seeing mine, although its better than half. I like to keep it a secret. I don't play tournaments, I don't need an "official" one. The one I have now is as "official" as it is going to get.

I've seen people who were horrible claim they were 5 handicaps. Handicaps in general are overrated. At times they can be useful, but I've seen people lie on theirs so badly it's not even funny.

I've seen it the other way around too. Someone will be like, "Yeah, I play to about a 20 handicap or so." and then they'll go out with you and shoot like 77...and they'll have a great swing too.

I should get a handicap, but I think any service if your just doing it for your own benefit is fine.

I consider any website that calculates your handicap accurately when you enter 10 or more scores is official, It spits out the same number as the GHIN would. There is no difference.

@CG: so you really don't have a handicap? you just threw out a random number into your details or do you mean you don't have an official one?

I don't have a USGA handicap to prove anything, I do it so when I go to a member guest, or play in a club championship, or even when I am playing a friendly match, I have a handicap to use.

Some of our friends use the BS computer scams (which is all they are, ways to cheat the usga of their money), and then one of our 4some just had his member guest and had to tell them sorry, but he can't bring them as 0 handicaps, and since they use some unofficial hdcp, that's what they would be. just playing in that tournament alone would be worth the $35 that a handicap costs, and considering it came with a free vokey wedge, 45 holes of golf, free booze, two dinners, etc..., I don't think they are thinking they made the right move by saving that $35 now.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
