Aim left as the ball will tend to go right (although a lot of better players tend to pull this shot by over compensating).

Bend more from the hips to get down to the ball and this helps get your swing more vertically, which is important with this shot.

Take some practice swings so you'll be able to set your weight where you can stay in balance. Obv. the tendency is to fall toward the ball.

I usually overclub and underswing. If it's an 8 iron shot, I'll use a 6 iron for three reasons:
1) The longer club helps to reach the ball
2) The reduced loft helps on shot below your feet (not sure why, but shots below my feet with lofted clubs are tough!)
3) I don't have to swing more than shoulder high. Because the ball is closer to you, the tendency is to go over the top. For me, taking a half-swing really is the most effective shot in below my feet lies.

Along with those tips, make a smooth swing so you will keep your balance. You may want to take more club than usual so you don't feel the need to hit it hard. You want good, clean contact and the ball should fade naturally with the slope.

I play the shot with the club face slightly closed depending on the slope of the hill to compensate for the fade shot, I do the same when the ball is above my feet and I open the face of my club to neutralize the draw.

Try it and see if it works for you.

A punch shot works for me. Ball all the way back in stance, low short swing and choke down for more control.

If it is a severe lie then I don't take chances. I just pitch it out to a flatter area.
