Of course, this only applies while the player is making a stroke, and it looks like the discussion at that point related to searching for a golf ball, so perhaps my point was moot. I was just saying the two aren't completely similar as far as I can tell.

Right.

Using a flashlight to find your ball does not help you play it. Just like using a camera or binoculars to identify your ball does not help you play it.

I believe unless artificial light is specifically used to help a player and not to generally light an area it's fine. I haven't seen an argument that breaks that.
