It sure is nice to hear from some athletes in here telling us that shin splints can't stop a round of golf. . . we are forced to look at other possibilities. . . perhaps he sprained a jaw muscle chewing gum . . .

......or, perhaps, it is a hangnail causing the fuss, or maybe there's a gremlin in his pants pulling his short hairs. Yeah, and the Queen of England and I are having tea, scones and clotted cream, even as I type this! Yeah! That's the ticket.

( with apologies to Jon Lovitz )

LOL, you are cracking me up Shortgame.

I keep trying to give you some more rep, but I have to "spread it around" before it accepts.

Keep it coming.

Sorry guy's I did not know you had all the facts about Rory's situation. I guess this was the point I was trying to make that we really don't know and can only speculate at this point. I have made it to about 12 PGA events a year for the past 22 years- not saying this makes me any more knowledgable than you but I do have some insight.

I'm staying with Fred Couples on this one. He wasn't pulling any punches or making excuses. For another tour player to call someone out, especially someone like Freddy, it has to be bad. They just don't ever do that. I know what you are saying, but have you ever seen that happen before, especially with a class act like Couples?

I would have to agree. If you can get Couples to take a shot at the guy publicly, then it has to be bad. Freddy is a guy that usually has good things to say about everyone. For it to get to the point where guys are ripping him, they have to be fed up with him.

Well said, as the public comments are definitely against the "Code of Honor", or in this case, dishonor.

One rep point for you!

Speaking of not pulling any punches, I heard that Freddy, being one of the most friendly, thoughtful and gracious fellows on tour, offerred, at no charge, to give Rory, upon his return to the states, a prostectamy with his long putter ( does Freddy use a Seemore? ). It was reported that Freddy's reasoning included the idea that without his prostate, Rory might settle down, focus on his game and, as a result, become a more civil and respectful member of the PGA Tour, and cease his yipping at the heels of his demonstrably superior rival and FOF ( Friend of Freddy ), Tiger. It was not clear whether or not Rory accepted Freddy's offer. Stay tuned.

OK, OK, I admit it! I let TourSpoon egg me on! I'm ashamed, I'm sorry and I'll indulge in a bit of selflagelation, but not with a Seemore.

Shin splits has long been the "go to" excuse for dropping out in sports. There are no observable symptoms and it is unverifiable. Like your wife having a "headache", you just have to take his word for it.

I'll bet he didn't walk with a limp packing his gear and going to the car. SubPar

I heard someone saw him running for the exit!

You know there used to be more honor in the game as well, for a lot less money.

I will pose the question again, have you ever heard of a pro of Couples stature call out another of his tour brethren and take him to task in public?

I think it still comes down to this being an issue over how he left not why he left. If he called Tiger himself and said I cant walk and play well with these evil shinsplints I am sorry but I have to WD, Tiger says O.K. I understand.

Anyone with shinsplints can tell you they are bad news and very very painful

You know- when Rory said that Tiger did not look to be in top form. I mean I don't think his comment was that bad and maybe was the truth?

Perhaps Rory should use the 170K to hire a caddy like Tiger's Stevie. Tiger doesnt have to tick off camera clickers or hecklers, he has Stevie to do it for him.

    • Day 126: 5/1/24 Putting and chipping practice. Slow motion swings with 8-iron.
    • #4 - 1st hole at Kingsbarns I rolled in a 15 footer for birdie. Showed my caddie an old guy could still play a bit. #3 - 18th hole at Basin Harbor Club, Vergennes, VT. I had played matches against my nephew over the years. He had never beaten me although through the years he had become a long hitting teenage golfer. I was 1 up but bunkered near the 18th green. My nephew had a long putt for birdie. I splashed out of the bunker to 4 feet. He rolled his first putt close and I gave him the par. Sadly for him, I rolled mine in and won our last match. He went off to college and then Europe for a Ph. D. It was our last match. Family champion forever. #2 - First playoff hole in the City of Livonia, MI “65 & Over” division. I rolled in an 8 footer that broke about 4-5 inches. #10 Whispering Willows GC. #1  18th hole at TPC Prestancia, Sarasota, FL. A 4 foot slicing putt for par to beat the prior year’s Member/Guest winners and win the Member/Guest with my father at his club. I was having heart palpitations as I played the final hole solo when my father put two in the water. There was never a better golf sight for me when that ball dove into the hole.
    • Finally, wedges getting somewhere. This one a punch gap from 87 yards to about 12 feet. Contact and ball flight absolute restaurant quality. It's nice when grass comes back.
    • Tiger on the Today show today. At 3:25 he says he's working on keeping his arms in more and rotating his hips better. Nice.
    • Day 11- Slow,  short swings with short practice club.
