Thoughts @iacas?

To be honest, the lack of good video angles makes any analysis tough to do.

https://thesandtrap.com/b/playing_tips/filming_your_swing

The video above is out on the ball/target line, not on the toe line. I didn't look at the other videos.

Sorry. I'm busy, as we all are, and I'd rather not take time to analyze video - for free - for a swing shot from bad angles. The analysis suffers as a result.

You swing across the ball and get crowded for space on the follow-through.

01.jpg

You can see that some of the crowding comes from "early extension" and you can see not only (on the left) how far outside the ball the clubhead gets early, and how far left the ball starts. It's even further left when you take into account the height of the ball off the ground (the triangle).

02.jpg

Part of the crowding and the need for early extension is due to how far forward your head goes, and how little secondary axis tilt this lets you create. If you don't do something to shallow the club, you're going to take HUGE divots.

03.jpg

So here's what I'd have you do:

1. Put two sticks on the ground to create a channel to the right.

2. Put another stick on the ground on your target line.

3. "Push the ball with your path" to the right of the stick. Feeling the head stay in place (NOT shift forward) will help with this.

Do this in slow motion at first because it's going to be very very different.

Thanks very much for your time @iacas , I really appreciate that.  In practice I've been aiming to get the clubhead on the right plane behind the ball by trying to get my right elbow in toward my hip but I didn't realise my head was moving so far forward. Coming across seems so hard to change, I've been swinging it that way for years :( now I know about my head it helps.

Should I worry about ball flight with this drill? I gather the ideal would be the ball drawing back to the target line.

Not at first. If you hit pushes that don't curve much one way or the other, that's a good sign.

Here are two vids of the drill @iacas. As I do this drill I feel like my swing is getting more 'handsy and armsy. Is this a good thing?

By the way that one instruction about keeping my head back has worked wonders. Hitting it so much more solidly/ much better feedback and getting it a lot more higher and straighter.

Yeah, I can see how it probably feels like that. What you're doing now is fine, but eventually you'll want to keep the arms extended and keep up the rates of rotation through the ball. Right now, to "do" the drill, you're stalling your upper body a bit. That's fine for now, something to pay attention to later.

And yeah… the second paragraph is kind of the point. :-)

Now, practice this for a long time. :-D

    • Day 87 (27 Jul 25) - Made it an easy session with the wedge this afternoon, worked on staying in the shot and not lifting out - split between low spinners and higher floaters.
    • Shot my new low 72 (par 70) today. Had 5 birdies, also a new best, which included a hole out from the bunker on par 3 6th, and another hole out pitch from 15ish yards on the long par 4, 15th.  Got a couple of other good breaks. Except for an OB drive on 14th (and ensuing double bogey), not much went wrong. All in all I might have used up a year's worth of luck in a single day.
    • Back in the saddle after vacation.  Day 1: played 18. Did not have it, but still battled to an 82. Felt closer to a 90, but that’s fine.
    • Yes, I have seen this from the older crowd that play the 4,700 yard tees and want to know why they get less strokes from there. Always trying to game the system 🤣
    • Day 300 - 2025-07-27 Good 44-ball segment. GSPro was acting goofy, so I just put it on the Quad. Then I hit a bunch of low spinners. Hit 14° down to 9.8° down, with the average closer to 12.3° or so. Focused mostly on the backswing. Right knee good, hands roll up and out a little before laying off (FAR).
