Forgiving woods

Hi,

I'm looking to buy my first wood. I started playing golf in may (2007) and so far I've only been using my irons and putter. I still have so much to learn with the irons but I want to learn how to hit a wood also.
So, what I want to ask, what wood do you recommend for a beginner?
I was thinking about the Callaway Big Bertha Fairway Wood or the Ping Rapture. Are these good beginners woods or do you recommend something else?

Yes, they are both great, forgiving fairway woods with a high launch. You could also try the Taylormade Burner.

Hi,

First, welcome to a great sport and, to a wonderful forum. Second, It would be hard to go wrong with the Callaway Big Bertha woods. However, you might also wish to look at Cobra's hybrids, called the Baffler DWS. They are made in a variety of lofts. They come with great Aldila shafts. Most of all and especially for a new golfer, they are so easy to swing well. They get the ball up almost effortlessly. Cobra just came out with a new version of the DWS. The old version is now selling for about $129 US. I would highly recommend you give these clubs a look. Good luck to you.

I was going to recommend the Callaways.

You can also check into Golfsmith or your local store and pick up some steals on second tier and in-house brands (Snake Eyes). At this stage you are learning and you don't have to spend a bundle to get started.

Hi,

Do you like the hybrids you use now? Consider their 5-Wood. Alternately, I suggest Cobra woods. Seeing as how I can hit their 3-Wood consistently, I'm happy with it.
