At the risk of being a self assessed PITA, I am now curious about this offset driver from Cobra. Specifically the 11.5 deg with senior flex. My reasons are it is a little offset, has a speed slot (may or may not be germane) and is priced below what I've seen so far in comparison with Tour Edge's 14 deg. I am afraid my "fickleness" is showing, but that seems a common trait among many. The price is something like $139 with free shipping through Amazon. Or might consider regular flex as well. or if I were smart, I would just learn to hit one of the several I already have. Orlimar Tri Metal Hip Ti, Wilson Ultra (Women's Flex) 12 deg 41 inch driver.

I went ahead and ordered the Cobra. I could not find this model in stores to try out, so I ordered blind. Good reviews, for whatever they are worth. If I keep this up, I am going to have to open up a second hand shop.

I play with the same driver, same shaft.  Since I can't take a full backswing the offset helps a lot.  Very easy to hit, forgiving, not as long as the G30 it replaced but it is a better club for me.

I actually got the 5W & 7W first and liked them so much I decided to try the driver.  I then picked up a 5H.

@70sSanO Yes, it did not take me long to make the decision after reading  few reviews. The offset is of particular interest  to me.  Secondarily, the price. My daughter (who lives not far from you in San Clemente) has a set of Cobra's that seem to suit her well. We have played San Clemente muni, and also Arrowwood.

I paid a lot more for my Cobra driver shortly after Ricky won with one of them.

What do they mean offset? Is that the same as closing the face ?

I use old Taylor Made clubs from eBay and golf shops.

One driver which is overlooked is the Cleveland CG Custom Black, has a Bassara E50 x5ct shaft as standard fitting, built to increase club head speed and believe me it works. Very consistent off tee. Great driver for senior golfers. Out performs some bigger name drivers. I was a fan of Cobra in my younger days but think now they suit more big hitters with 100mph club speed.

Just now, Hacker James said:

not exactly, but serves the same purpose. The face of the driver is slightly indented.

Looks like I made a bit of mistake. I accidentally ordered 9.5/stiff. I am trying to cancel the order, but wont find out until Monday, otherwise I will have to return it unused. It may cost me a few dollars for shipping. I used to be able to hit 9.5 degrees on the older clubs such as 975D, but I really think it  would present a problem now.  oh well, it happens........

this is a better explanation:

Best Answer:  Manufacturers sometimes build offset on all types of clubs (woods, irons, putters). Offset refers to the distance that the front side of the hosel (of the clubhead) is in front of the clubface. This design allows the clubface to impact the ball later than a club without offset. Offset is intended to help give the ball a higher trajectory. As already mentioned, offset allows you to square the clubface, which is needed for people who slice the ball. If you already hit the ball straight, you are not going to want to get clubs with offset. Blade irons do not have offset, so I'm assuming that you are not using these clubs. If you are having trouble with hitting offset clubs, you might consider changing your grip. Woods generally have less loft than irons because a mis-hit will cause bigger variation in control. So if you are using offset woods, it is best to slow down your swing. The intention of offset putters is to allow you to putt with your eyes directly over the ball. However, the benefit of offset putters vary from golfer to golfer.

just a thought, ( I occasionally have them)....why would Cobra come out with a game improvement driver with a 9.5 degree loft and stiff shaft in the first place? One would think if a person had the swing speed to hit it, they would opt towards a more pro line club.

well, unfortunately since the order was placed on a weekend, I was unable to cancel owing to the automated shipping system. They did reply immediately this morning, and I can ship it back with an RMA form. I will be out the shipping cost. I was tempted to try it anyway, but even if hit one time, they will consider the item used, therefore I won't even open the package.  I don't know how long it will take to get it credited back on the Amazon Credit Card.

while I am waiting to return the club, I went to Dick's just to see what swing speed I would need to hit a stiff shaft club. I tried one in their grab bag with a shift shaft. It was a TM. It "felt" really great!, dead center hits. HOWEVER, the monitor said my swing speed was only around 75MPH. It just did not seem to coorelate with how solid it felt. According to the attendant, all else looked okay, good launch angle e.t.c. but, he said that I needed to go with a regular flex at the most. I hit three in succession, taking my time, and all three were solid hits. I do seem to recall in my younger days, I always seemed to have straighter shots with a stiff shaft but never had my SS measured. It sure felt good, but I guess the proof is in the numbers.

Maybe this will help...

http://www.golfclub-technology.com/driver-face-progression.html

I use one to give me an extra moment to square the face.  As I said earlier, because of a shoulder injury, I can't take a full backswing so there is less time/distance to square the club face.

Thanks.

Though I'm skeptical you couldn't learn to compensate yourself for some mm worth of offset.
