I was just watching the WGC-Mexico tournament and Jimmy did a segment on the proposed rules of golf changes.

I enjoy him as a storyteller/vinnette guy, whether it's the Olympics or golf, he does such a great job with it.

Sometime I'll record the beginning of the Sunday round start of a major just to watch his intro segment.

He seems like a class act.  I miss the show he used to have on TGC.

I think he's okay. A bit too sappy sometimes. But the role kinda calls for it.

Sometimes he tried to tug at the heart strings and it falls a little flat, and sometimes he can get sappy for sappy's sake. But that's par for the course for that sort of job. He's as good as any of them.

I agree, it's part of the role.  I think Bob Costas does a good job too.  I don't care for Joe Buck as much.

How about Lester Holt?  LOL

The guys is way too damn maudlin for my liking. I often find myself cringing through his pieces.

I've got nothing personal against the guy though; I'm sure if I knew him I'd enjoy being his friend... probably just for the free tickets, but he seems like a genuinely nice guy as well haha.

Here's one of his pieces posted to Youtube. It's typical Jimmy Roberts, except his normal level of heart string tugging is subdued due to the benign subject matter of the piece itself.

Along with Peter Jacobson, Roberts is kind of like America's corny uncle who makes you listen to his stories when you and your cousins would rather be outside playing cops and robbers. By the end, you're somewhat grateful for the history lesson, and by the time you reach adulthood, you're using Uncle Jimmy's story time as your time to hit the head or grab something from the kitchen :-D

This piece here turns the sappiness up a couple ticks on the dial:

Lol, ^^ that's what we're talking about.

...and when the piece is about someone dying or someone who has died, oh boy...the sappiness dial gets turned way up.

I will conclude however by reiterating that he seems like a genuinely nice guy who raises awareness for various causes so I can't truly ever hate on the guy, even if it is cringe inducing at times. So, IMO, he's a good guy. It's just fun to bust his chops when he wallows in sentimentality sometimes :-D

I actually like Jacobson...I think he's a great storyteller.  I prefer him when he is the guest or being interviewed as opposed to when he's the host though.
