I just bought a new Mizuno MP-T 60*. I don't know a whole lot about it but if anyone knows anything lemme know here.

I play with Mizuno MP-T series gap and sand wedges (53/8 bent to 51/6) and the 56/14 so I can't speak to the 60* directly but I love the other two. They are easy to work -- and carry soft and high or easy to work in lower with two bounces, a check and short roll without a full follow-through.

I chip almost exclusively with the gap wedge and find an easy, full gap shot easily covers 115 yards. The sand wedge is excellent out to 80 yards but it does have a high bounce so on tight lies you have to be careful. The 60* should be easier from tight lies in close I'd imagine.

I have yet to miss clearly a greenside bunker with the SW and I'm not very good. When you hit these cleanly, you can barely feel the contact -- very smooth.

Another plus is that they won't chew up softer balls to the same extent as a Volkey SM. I have a 58* Volkey SM that I'll carry if greens are really hard or fast because it will spin more than the Mizuno SW. I find with a 60 yard shot with the Volkey, the ball will stop within a yard of where it hits. You might be looking at 2 or maybe 3 yards roll with the Mizuno on a comparable shot from my experience.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
