Good day,

I have been playing in a very average manner and not very often for almost forty years.

Now I have retired I am wanting to improve my play, not a big ask when I score 20 over for 9 holes.

I play left handed. Due to a bit of a back problem 65% of my weight is on my left leg.

My question: has any member of Sand Trap successfully swapped left hand to right hand please?

I have some 20 years or so of playing ahead of me I would like to think.

My aim is to drop to an eighteen hole handicap 24 or so by December this year.

Many thanks,

Denns

Interesting post.  I've hit balls left handed, but never played.  How is your flexibility from the opposite side? What I noticed swinging that way was I have less backswing flexibility. I suppose it may improve if I stuck with it.

Also, are you generally left handed? Phil Mickelson is right handed but plays left.

Welcome to the forum!

I can't answer your question directly, but I have to ask, have you spent any time with a good instructor?  Are you naturally left handed in everything else?

As I sit here typing this, I'm icing my back and doing isometrics in preparation for my round today.  I understand back problems. :-(   But switching sides strikes me as a bit extreme.  Golf is hard, and it's even harder when we try to go it alone without any real idea of what's going wrong in the first place.  My recommendation, before going to the extreme, would be to find a good instructor and spend some time with him.  I'll bet you're able to improve significantly, and quickly.  I'd be very surprised if the final recommendation was to switch sides.

Good luck, and it's good to have you here!
