I'm sure the PGA Tour made a decision that they believe is in the best interests of the majority of their members.  Many individual tournaments are having difficulty finding sponsors, some of them won't be continuing.  Without the sponsors, these guys don't really have a job.  They don't wanna put up their own money, that's for sure, they wanna play for someone else's money.  To have a company like FedEx sign up to provide major money for 10 whole years is a big deal, I don't blame them for accepting a few terms that they'd prefer not to have to accept.  And the big few should understand where their money came from, and where it continues to come from, and thank Fedex every morning.

Their money does not come from tournament purses. The big few should be thanking Nike, Taylormade, Titleist, and Adidas, not FedEx. I would be willing to bet that the FedEx cup winners end up earning more from their primary sponsor in a year than they do from FedEx during that year, even after the $10,000,000 bonus purse for the whole enchilada.

Sponsorships, as you mention, is where the money comes from in golf. The same applies for players, they don't rely on tournament purses to make their livings.

I don't doubt any of this.  However, without tournament sponsors, there would be no tournaments.  Without the overall sponsorship of Fedex, there would be less publicity, and quite possibly fewer tournaments, and individual player endorsement deals rely on that publicity.  Fedex is a big deal in fueling the whole cycle.

That's a fair point.

    • Day 60 - 2024-11-29 Got about 3.5' of snow today, so I was going to go to Golf Evolution, but… I only left the house to throw some snow. Instead, i checked out my putting stroke on HackMotion in the basement. Turns out… it's pretty good, and I'm very in touch with what I'm doing.
    • First time playing this game, Spanish is my native language. It was impossible for me. After 4 worlds I run out of worlds that have the letters I've already found that can be combined with the remaining letters.. just repeated the 4th world to knew the answer. I know the world but it never came to my mind.
