I bought a odyssey white hot xg # 7 off ebay just to see if I like it.  It is supposed to be a 34".  If it seems a little to long would it hurt to cut a little off and regrip  it.  I would doubt if I could tell any difference but I was just wondering.  Thanks

I don't think it will hurt it. Most people use a longer putter than they should.

It will probably hurt the resale value, because most people use a longer putter than they should.

The first putter I bought was a 35" Ping.  A few years ago, I cut it down to 32" and put a round grip on it.  I seem to remember it felt different... but better.  I was using a longer putter than I should have.

In retrospect, 32" might have been too short (my Edel came in longer).  But cutting down a putter and putting a fresh grip on it is no problem.  I even learned how to cut shafts at some point... there's an amusing thread in my history about my inability to use a pipe cutter.

You can get an extension to make it whatever length if you don't like it. And so can anyone else that might want it later. A couple bucks at Golf Galaxy.

Thanks for the comments.  I think I'll go ahead and cut the 1" off and give it a try.  Thanks again guys.

YES, it will change the weight of the putter thus it will impact the feel. Any length taken off the club needs to be offset with additional weight by using lead tape or a weighted grip. Kids doing this turn a $300 scotty cameron into a worthless POS - every action has an equal reaction.

    • I had a few tweeks in the bag. I took out my Mizuno pro FliHi 3 iron replaced it with a Titleist GT2 7 Wood. what a change that is, so easy to hit, it goes so high without it ballooning on me. I couldn't get rid of my callaway woods ( Rogue ST Max LS ) but changed the shafts to Diamana BB 63 stiff for the driver and 73 stiff for the 3 wood. Than i got myself a new putter Odyssey S2S jailbird yes i joined the centershaft family
    • First off all i think you should use the same ball all the time. We all strive for consistency on the course, the only factor you can be sure it will be always the same is your ball if you always use the same. So i think we should always use the same. I recently switched from Titleist Pro V1x to Srixon Z-Star Diamond because it i get a bit softer feel around the greens and same results on driver and irons
